Bringing back the best traditions of eXtraterrestrial COMbat!

Xenonauts, the spiritual successor to the classic 1990s X-Com games bringing back and expanding all of their strategic depth and tactical greatness, is available on 20% off on GOG.com. That's $19.99 for the first week!

Xenonauts is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games from the 1990s. We aim to improve the graphics, add new content and streamline the interface whilst still retaining all of the key mechanics of the original games. Devoted fans should love this game, but we're also keen to introduce the joys of old-school grand strategy to a whole new generation of players who might not otherwise experience it! In this robust strategy game you control a multi-national military organisation defending a Cold War-era Earth from an alien invasion, using small squads of persistent soldiers to eliminate the extraterrestrials and recover their technology in turn-based ground combat. A detailed strategic layer allows you to co-ordinate the defence of the planet, using your interceptors to shoot down UFOs and researching captured artefacts to learn about your foes and unlock new combat equipment to use on your missions. The game comes with a full MP3 sountrack!

The alien overlords' plan was as simple, as it was brilliant: "wait for the 2014 DRM-Free Summer Sale to start on GOG.com, and conquer the Earth with minimum resistance while everyone is busy tracking the Flash Deals". Stay vigilant, defender of our home planet! Only you can foil the extraterrestrials' scheme and show them that the human race is not to be messed with, in Xenonauts, for $19.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount will last until Monday, June 23, at 1:00PM GMT.

Emob78: Just had my veteran 1st squad wiped out on a city battle. It was the first time I had to fight those green suited aliens with the gas mask looking things on their faces. Tough fight but I lost it in the end. Some are saying that the AI is glitched, some even say it's weak. I must be losing my skills, because Xenonauts is really putting up a hell of a challenge for me. Definitely a fun game, though.

Russonc: You really have to play smart or the AI will kill you quick.... Unfortunately, some people always want the AI to do something else...some say too weak, some say too strong.... Too me, the game seems very fun and that is all that really matters.

skeletonbow: Looks like the game is getting excellent reviews too. Can someone who owns it already tell me if it supports 2560x1600 monitor resolution?

Russonc: 1920x1080 is the highest setting
I havent figured out how to engage UFo,s with multiple planes.
For some reason i can only engage ufos with only one plane even if i send them short after another.
The manual is telling me its possible and a smart move to engage larger ufos with several planes at once but i cant see how to do it unless im missing something.

So if anyone can tell me clarly how to to do it, it woud be great.

skeletonbow: Is your monitor 1920x1080? If so, the game might prune unusable modes from the list and not show them perhaps. I end up having to manually test a lot of games for that to find out as most folks monitors are 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 or less and it might not show. :/

I created a GOG Mix which I was using to try and keep track of games that support 2560x1600 but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any way to find your GOG mix afterward to update it unless you randomly stumble upon it or bookmarked it so I lost it. Nice to know which games support UHD modes though.
Good point..no mine is only 1920x1080...so I guess I am not sure...sorry..

you can select multiple planes to intercept at the same time (click multiple planes that will then be highlighted and they go together as a group. That I can do, still no good at the air combat (I believe there are some good game play videos around that by people who know what they are doing...

I managed to down, without taking any damage, a ufo that i had statistically 0% chances to defeat, by the following technique : flying out of the screen, clicking eveywhere randomly, and screaming a lot.

Do I qualify as a good player who knows what he is doing ?

You can use google to find the gogmix you want, just use site:gog.com as part of your search.

Cool, that's the one. :) Never thought of doing that. Pity GOG doesn't have some built in search and navigation system for GOG mixes. I imagine that Mixes will be replaced by something better though inside GOG Galaxy, or at least that would make a huge amount of sense to me. :)
