hello, my dear omniscient friends,

I've searched and searched, but haven't found a nice and easy instructions how to install, update and play Resident Evil 2 on Windows 7... can someone help please?

maybe there's some neat installer that will take the CDs and do its stuff, then tell me "you can play the game now on your modern PC, enjoy!" :D that would be great...

but even if there's no such thing, does anyone have a way to play this game? (it doesn't even have to look prettier, the original is alright, but I can't even properly install the game, let alone install the patch and/or some hi-res packs I found, it's all just too complicated...)

thanks to everyone who tries! :o)
a decent helpless bump...

Hum, years ago I found out that Resident Evil 2 is one of the most compatible games that you can get running on modern Windows versions. At least till Windows Vista, that's it: I still have to try and install RE2 on Windows 7.....

It runs better on Win7 than any other OS I've ever tried it with, but I still think it looks off. Of course that may be the game or maybe my pc is just a piece of shit.

The secret is choosing the right type of Graphic Card in the setup. With my laptop's GPU (GeForce 9600M GT) I've settled the issue with the Rage Pro card and a 320x240 full-screen resolution.
*sigh* I wish Capcom would bring these to a PC DD platform - any one, I'm not proud!
Same with Komani and Silent Hill too (though porting the 1st one to PC is still on my ideal version of their 'to do' list!)

So what was the secret, before I go lumping after the PSX or GameCube version?

yeah, I wonder if there's some difficult lawyer/right mumbo jumbo or it's just too much work to make it work...

It's probably just Japanese companies, immersed in Japanese gaming culture not seeing the PC as a serious and credible gaming platform worth worrying too much about, sadly!

You know, the PC architecture is the basic hardware Street Fighter IV (the arcade version) runs on. And the PC home conversion is top notch, so....

Ah, but would there have even been a PC version of it at all if they didn't essentially get it for 'free' or with very little conversion and compatibility work at least?

Reading that again, I meant that the that they don't consider the PC gaming market to be one worth targeting, not the that they think the PC has any technical deficiencies in terms of performance or what have you...
