I recently picked up Rage from Gamefly for super cheap and have been playing it quite a bit. The game tries to do too much and doesn't really succeed at anything in particular, although it was defenitely worth 10 dollars.

The racing part to me seems the best and got me thinking of the old SNES game Rock N' Roll Racing and how awesome it would have been if ID just dumped the FPS part Rage, fleshed out the racing AI, controls and features and just basically re-made RnR Racing with a wasteland theme instead.

I know we mostly have PC gamers here but anyone else remember RnR Racing? I had so much fun playing that hot seat co-op with friends. That type of racing game seems a dead genre. Anyone know of any newish games that are similar or upcoming?

Edit: FYI the Gamefly deal for Rage is still on. It activates on Steam and seems to include all the recent DLC as well. Sadly only US/Canada are included for the deal.

Edit 2: Rage deal is expired.

I played it on the SNES and loved it.
Only problem is, if ID did that today, for it to sell, they would have to call it Dub Step Racing or something equally unappealing. Maybe some things are best just left alone :)

I had Rock 'N' Roll Racing for the Mega Drive, it was a lot of fun to pay. Interestingly, in a trivial kind of way, the American version had a different soundtrack to ours in Europe.

I wish Blizzard would really try something fresh and new in this day and age

Right now though...it seems they are destined to ONLY work on WOW, SC and Diablo and nothing else, ever
Rock N' Roll Racing is the best racing game out there.

Blizzard wins again. :P

I suppose it's similar to the Sonic CD US/JP-EU soundtrack situation

This is one of my most favoritest games ever. I was actually playing it just last weekend. I would love to see a new game built in the same spirit as Rock n Roll Racing.

Did you ever put in the code to get Olaf from Lost Vikings as a racer? I was hopping he would have some special advantage, but he was basically just another racer.

I did have a friend of mine get really mad because he thought he had me lined up for the kill, then I hit the jump jets and the brakes at the same time. I landed right behind him and then, in the words of the announcer "Jake unleashes hot fury!"

I've played plenty of racing games that allow vehicle upgrades, and plenty that give you weapons, and plenty that have good vehicle damage, and some even licensed great music. But not many thought to do them all at once.
