I have known Star Wars as long as I can remember and thankfully the first movies of SW that I ever saw were Episodes IV-VI. Now when Episode I came out I was hyped. "Oh my, a new Star Wars movie, gotta go see it."
After I've seen it 3 times in the cinema I still had mixed feelings about the movie...as a child, the target audience of the movie. What I'll always remember about the first Episode is Jar Jar (oh god), the annoying kid that is Anakin (awful, even in English), an absolutely pointless race, CGI on every shot (which now apparently is a standard and while it looks nicer nowadays I'd still prefer CGI as a last resort, if something is impossible to make with handmade effects) and a decent final fight. All in all this is not a good movie from top to bottom.
When Episode II released I didn't even bother to go the cinema or at least I can't remember doing so. It was slightly better than Episode I but not by a whole lot. It suffered from the same issues, a still annoying Anakin, CGI and on top of that a horrible love story that made me cringe. Disgusting.
I have to admit it was kind of cool to see Yoda fight, so yay, +1 point. ;)
Despite an even more annoying Anakin I liked Episode III at the time, though I constantly thought "How could this punk be THAT badass in Episode IV-VI?" and looking back at it, it still hurts. The whole transition of Anakin to the dark side, the (again horrible) love story and a rather uninteresting Palpatine left me begging for more but no, it didn't help. Also, CGI.

Now I could talk about the Special Editions of the original trilogy but that'd be too much. Generally speaking, I don't like them.

Comparing the trilogies is an insult to the old movies as they actually had good actors in it. Who will you remember from the new trilogy? Maybe Ewan McGregor? It surely won't be Hayden Christensen unless you like to remember bad performances. I actually tried to watch Episode I and II several times this year but for the love of god I can't stand them. At least I found an interesting order to watch the movies in. Head over to this website, it's a good read and the writer has a lot of valid points. To sum it up: IV, V, II, III, VI (no Episode I)

Watching the original trilogy is still a blast even though Episode VI has its share of silly and corny moments. When I heard that Disney is going to make three new movies I shed a single tear and said to myself "It can't be worse than Episode I, can it?". ;_;
