Thats why when someone downvotes me, I think to myself "Fuck'em"
Thank you all for the posts and I decided to start writing review here on the forum(I'll deal with negative feedback, that's part of reviewing) and I'm not going to give up on PC gaming because of GOG

justanoldgamer: I think the hardest thing about reviewing a game here is the 5 stars system. I wish there were 10.
Why does the scale matter at all? I don't get it. If it seems easier to rate to 10, decide the appropriate mark then divide by 2. Exact same result.

Not quite, I see 3 as average and 5 as perfect. I think that there should be more room between the two. So we'd have 6 for average (or slightly above) 10 for perfect, 7,8 and 9 for in between.

I was almost sure that GOG would allow at least half-point definition, so 7->3.5. Never bothered to rate any game.
In that case I agree with you, an integer 1-5 scale is slightly tight.

l0rdtr3k: Yesterday I went to my psycologyst because for the past 5 years I've been dealing with social anxiety and it's something that I want to go away.
She said to me that go with baby steps and asked if I participate in any forum, which I told her about GOG, so she suggested to me that I started reviewing games that I own here.
Unfortunetly, I don't know how to review games. So when I start publishing reviews here or in the game pages, I'll get things wrong or just make a fool of myself.
so yeah, later I might put here my first game review(and maybe my last) about South Park: The Stick of Truth.
But I would also like some advice on how I can open up to people again.
I know where you are coming from! I used to be lively, confident happy etc but for some reason I have kinda sunk into depression and reclusiveness over the past five years not having any drive or ambition to sort things out either. Happened after coming home from living in Australia for a few months. Nowadays if I am meeting new people I am always quiet and awkward, I have to get drunk in order to be lively and confident in front of new people on a night out.

I know after saying that any advice I am offering seems void, why the hell don't I take my own advice etc. But you just need to find your mojo! (mines on a beach somewhere on bondi beach I think, please look out for it if anyone's in Sydney :P) Focus on what you have good going for you and actively try to improve anything your not happy with by setting objectives etc.

Good luck sorting your head out, I feel for you <3

And regarding reviews just write whatever you feel about them, a review is an opinion so how can it be right or wrong after all? Hell, you may even get ubisoft to pay you five grand to say that the pc version of watchdogs doesn't suck!

Chin up and good luck :)

AndyBuzz: Why does the scale matter at all?
Precisely. I don't get points-based reviews at all, especially in last several years, when scale got shifted, turning everything below 8 into pure rubbish, so now only games above 9 matters. Eh?
That's why I prefer reviews where reviewer actually gets into the game, explaining what he liked, and what he didn't, giving a wide berth to all PR-like sentences sent from publisher's PR division. Finding such reviewer and linking your views with his may give higher chances to find proper reference points for future appraisal.
Although I must admit, I like reading "between the lines" type of reviews, where author(s) tells you game is rubbish, yet it's 10/10. :D

You've already taken a good first step already simply by posting the above here. Just speak your mind freely with a positive attitude and you should do just fine. Do it for yourself rather than for others and try not to get tied up in other peoples opinions or in any potential negative commentary that might show up and just focus on putting out positive energy and you can have an awesome experience. There are a lot of people here in the forums and the majority of them are rather good folk with a positive attitude. Keep positive minded folks in your inner circle of contacts/friends/acquaintences and you should have a pretty good experience. It will only be likely to get easier over time then.

Hope this helps!
Above all else, just remember this: if you're not being criticised, you're not doing anything. Everything anyone does in front of others is always subject to scrutiny. Even successful people....ESPECIALLY successful people constantly face criticism. Instead of worrying about it, it's better to examine what you did and whether or not you could have done it better.

Also, people make mistakes and make fools of themselves all the time. The road to success is paved with trial and error. Again, it's not something you should worry yourself about a lot; instead, try to learn from your mistakes and move on. The only way to succeed is to constantly move forward, not to keep dwelling on the past.

At least I think she should have told you to go to a moderated forum, but I am surprised your advisor would have told you to go to internet in the first place to face your anxieties.

Have you checked her credentials, actually? Or was there a particular rationale for this recommendation?

People are known to behave more unkindly when social restrictions are removed by the relative anonymousness that the internet affords. I suppose your wish should be rather the opposite.

Edit: typing.

On writing reviews: I've found that maintaining a collection of notes while experiencing a game helps me tremendously when it comes to thinking back to what I did and did not enjoy. It helped me with my Mars: War Logs review.
My review is straight to the points and well organized, though. Read White Glint's Sonic Adventure 2, , and [url=http://steamcommunity.com/id/dorroile/recommended/237890/]Agarest: Generations of War reviews for some other takes on the art of reviewing. WARNING: They are very funny.

Notice the difference between my reviews and White Glint's. His/her reviews actually entertain while mine merely inform.
My job as a reviewer is basically to help people realize if they would enjoy playing a game or not. As long as I accomplish that, regardless of my methods, I've done my job.

On dealing with anxiety:
1. Stop taking life so seriously.
2. Stop worrying about the possibilities and start accepting them.
3. Learn from the past, enjoy the present, and plan for the future.

I read it. It's just fine for a first review. Keep writing them and you will be happier and happier with your results.
