When it comes to rainbows - it's REALLY tough to say "people are bad", "people are good"... I mean - it's EASY to say, but hard to know. I'd be willing to believe that the world is full of petty, self-centered morons, but I acknowledge that that's not a particularly sophisticated, original, nor documented view. Then again - Hobbes...
As for being special - DarrkPhoenix is a smart guy, just give his statements the benefit of the doubt. As long you understand his "decent" as "not particularly evil, not out of ordinary", and accept the fact that you need to DO stuff to GET STUFF DONE... it all makes perfect sense. You don't need to be unique on a global scale to enjoy life, but you can't really enjoy, say, fishing without fishing and thus learning how to fish, right?
I never said DarkPheonix is stupid but I believe he is naive. And just to clear things up. When I say, most people are not decent human beings, I'm not saying, most people are pure 100% evil and just want to see the world burn. Of course, even if someone is not a decent human being, there is some good in in him or her.

My opinion is that the article seems quite narrow minded and very misguided ( I read points 6 and 5 only ).

If you're willing to make the same distinction, we could say that there are, indeed, few "good" people, but since being decent is a much less difficult task - there are many "decent" ones. If we take "decent" to mean "average" in ethical terms, then what Phoenix said is simply a matter of Gaussian distribution.

See - this is why I like to stick to abstract examples. I should've probably gone for something like "It is decent to feed watermelons a single goldfish, but it's good to feed them a bowlful". The less sense something makes, the less it distracts people from a purely grammatical / lexical problem.
