Well... That's what happened to me with "Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse". I wanted to buy it as a gift but got the "added to your account" message ;) But I like Telltale's adventures and I like Sam & Max, so that's okay.
But I get what you're saying. Clicking games you'll never play just to get them for free and to never play them is... uhm... kind of stupid.

Less stupid than buying games cheaply just because they're on sale, even though you aren't interested in it at all and just buy it because it is very cheap.

I got very lucky.
Bought 3 games(carma II, theme park and deus ex II) and got 2 games for free(Gateways and stronghold Crusader HD.) Although first free game I kinda got by accident.
