Fenixp: By tags, you will always discover the popular opinion on a game
Considering I can upvote tags without owning the game, and potentially make dupe accounts to do so (because I have nothing better to do), then I'd rather not see unmoderated "popular opinion" (aka penis, shit, cunt, faggot, jews suck, among other opinions) whenever I intend to buy a game on Steam.

I rarely scroll down the store page to read user reviews for a reason. And that goes for both Steam and GOG.

Fenixp: Come on, that is just ... Incredibly immature of you to say :-P Yes, in every collective, there's a bunch of trolls and idiots who do stupid shit. They stand side by side with helpful and intelligent people. But guess what? By tags, you will always discover the popular opinion on a game. If a tag 'Shit' is voted to high heaven on a game, it's quite likely not all that many people liked the damn thing, for instance. If a game is generally considered good, however, tag 'shit' won't get far. It's the sort of self-redacted, natural way to see what majority of people think about the game - and it also works great with the new recommendation system
Well, until Valve started censoring tags, tags like "shit", "gone homo", "gay propaganda" were on top and their popularity bars were growing instead of shrinking. Also "shit" was voted on many games that are actually good, but people just wanted to troll or were angry on author (Fez). Bioshock Infinite was "shit" even tho it has way more positive reviews (I'm talking about Steam reviews, not professional ones) than negative ones.

But I personally don't really care about tags that are stupid, childish etc. I would just ignore them, because I never care about general opinion anyway. What I personally care is that they often contained spoilers. Now Valve censors any tags with spoilers (and insulting tags too), but I know that Valve won't manage to keep it up with trolls in the future, so I'm afraid that I might eventually see tags with huge spoilers on store page. That's why I want to have option to turn them off.

Fenixp: You have probably missed GOG reviews :-P
To be honest I don't read them at all. They are on the bottom of the page (you have to scroll down to see them), so they are easy to ignore.

StingingVelvet: Did I say anything about maturity, or defend the comments themselves? No. I said it's a natural byproduct of letting people say things. The valuable tags will become the only ones you see without digging eventually.
Well, freedom of speech is one thing, but I believe that people should be able to at least browse online store without being insulted or discriminated. Internet have already a lot of places where you have freedom to say whatever you want and insult whoever you want and people use it very effectively.

Aside from easy jokes like tagging Gone Home with "Gone Homo", negative tags should be visible if they voice genuine criticisms about the game as word of mouth from other people is more powerful than a official reviewer who chances are, has been paid off to write a favorable review by the game company with doritos game fuel money .

That said, they better not touch git gud or die tryin because that tag is absolutely beautiful.
