So i was playing TF2 the other day and having only played it for about 20 hours total i wanted to get some achievements, i came across a server where all you had to do is type in !Give all Sniper ETC for all sniper achievements and stuff.

Well after gaining the achievements for all the classes this way i kinda felt i was ruining the game for myself as part of the enjoyment is to try and get the achievements with my own two hands.

My question is this; Will i get my steam account banned for doing this? I didn't earn any items that you have to pay for, just the achievement ones. The server was VAC protected so i guess i should be ok since i haven't had my account banned yet or anything.

Can anyone help me out and give a bit of insight on this and is there a way to reset my achievements?

No.

And there are no items you have to pay for.

You won't get banned for that, and there is no way to reset achievements as far I know. There is only a way to reset your game statistics.

As a correction to the above, you won't get banned by VAC (that detects client-side hacks, this is all server-side), but I don't think Valve would be that happy about it.

I'd say it's a pretty slim chance of them doing anything about it though, so I wouldn't worry.

Sorry to butt in, but are you saying that achievements are permanent? They won't go away as long as the account is active?

Edit. I'm pretty sure my HL2 achievements got reseted some time ago. I had the game couple of years ago, and recently re-installed it, and my achievements are gone..

Yes i did it a while ago and my achievements have stayed on my account i'm at something like 355/379.

There are lots of TF2 players. They won't pick out ChickenHero and be all disappointed in him.

Well, I meant in general, they're probably not that happy about the achievement servers, but are unlikely to do anything about it.

So, uhh, you wrote a command somewhere to... feel like you achieved something? Sounds kind of... I dunno. Why on earth would you do that?

Because you get the achievement Weapons when you do it, that was why.. kinda regret doing it now tho.

Ohh, okay. I didn't know there were some kind of prizes too. I guess that's reasonable if you haven't put skill points into patience and happen to value extra TF2 guns greatly.

Steam achievements are permanent, barring some unintentional glitch.

Half-Life 2 only recently got achievements; you didn't have any because they didn't exist last time you played it. Achievements are also not retroactive; you will need to redo all the associated tasks to get the achievements to unlock.

Okay, that must be it. I was just surprised to see that I had no achievements at all in HL2, even though I had beat the game once. Thanks for clearing that up :)
