I'm on red team, which is winning at the moment. YAY.

By the way, i don't care about these cards and badges. I always sell them whenever i can to buy games. Good thing there are people with money to burn who actually buy this stuff.

Sage103082: Thank you. I understand a bit better now. I still think I lack seeing the point. Is this just in hopes of being on the winning team and getting 3 games by some rare chance in hell. To me it seems like a lot of BS and money spending on nothing for .. nothing.

Psyringe: Yep, that's pretty much it. ;)

Steam's entire trading card system is more or less a tool for Steam to create money out of almost nothing, and the team competition during this Summer Sale is meant as an encouragement to spend even more money.

If you have some trading cards, you can benefit from the madness by selling them now, while the card prices are going up (or by crafting a badge and selling the bonus card, but the time where that was profitable is probably over already). I was lucky to have a lot of cards on my account, and made about 60€ during the past few weeks just from selling cards. I kind of wonder why people are paying me money for something so useless, but I won't complain.
Tell me about it. I've managed to get a couple of games off of these people for what amounts to almost entirely free (ignoring game cost). I'm sure you could maybe work the system to your favor to get a decent number of games the same way, but I've never been one too interested in that kind of stuff.

Money man, can get you anything but grounded, until you're out of it anyway.
Does it mean I am probably on some team?
Cool, I always wanted to belong somewhere. I feel special now.
Go Purple Team!

Steam's created an Online Sale game that rival the likes of LoL!
I got put on the Red Team, typical

BranjoHello: I'm also in Team Pink, but I'm level 7 and you have to be at least level 8 to get the cards.
They fucked me the same way on previous occasion when I was level 6 and they demanded level 7. XD
If you'd read the rules for the summer event, you would see that as long as you hit level 8 before it's all over, you'll qualify for the cards. It seems to be worded in a way that suggests retroactivity, too.

Psyringe: People can contribute points to their team by buying games
Where did you read that? All I see is that get 10 points for crafting that silly sale badge and 1 point for crafting any other badge. It's all about the badges and, as far as I can see, nothing about actually buying games.

It's really stupid, but you can't get points by buying games, only by making those badges.

Also, I just noticed that it's counting the points in that page real time now, rather hypnotic :D
The coolest guy on steam, is also the coolest guy on GoG, myself. :P
What do the points stolen mean?
Can the teams steal points from each other?

Oh and I'm not on any team.
I haven't crafted a single thing since Steam started with these Badges, so why even bother..
Wat did I just read.

Am I missing something or should I not feel bad that I don't understand this system. O.o

You're correct, I mixed it up with the card counter that's displayed when you buy a game. Sorry for the misinformation.

I think you can (sometimes?) change teams when you craft a Summer Sale batch, and that removes your contribution from your previous team and adds it to the new team.

I'm not sure though, I haven't crafted a Summer Sale badge yet. To me it seems more efficient to just sell the cards.

I've seen people complaining that it's a "pay to win" competition because "everyone is crafting badges so that they can get into the winning team". Imho that would be a pretty stupid thing to do since you'd have to invest 3€ worth of cards for a payback of 0.90€ worth of cards plus a negligible chance to win games from your wishlist, but who knows ...

ShadowWulfe - from the post above- I think being lost is better then knowing. I have no idea how to craft nor do I think I want to.

Not being a level 8 the only thing I could do to contribute to my team would be to buy games and I guess that does not help from what I read.

So a confusing concept for people with tons of time and or money to deal with. IMO

Azrael360: LOL! I don't even understand what are the "teams" for... (:P)
Me neither, but free games are involved somehow. However the have-2-give-a-shit:profit ratio is too high, so no.

I agree! And from what I can see 30 people out of a shit load get 3 games. The chance and winner verse jumping through hoops and spending time and money...nah ill buy a game if I really want it,
