I support this thread, even if it's "sexist" (I'm with Vestin on that).
Two thoughts:
Good to see the diversity of views.
Good that in real life mistaking someone's gender is much harder.
Where did that last come from? Well not being very social online I had at least 4 surprises about someone's gender in this thread alone. Interestingly these were all individuals I got into somewhat frustrating arguments with recently. Maybe this is sexist, but I believe the genders have different typical communication preferences. In real life, if debating women I use different approaches.
Do carry on. Both thumbs up.

Wow, this is a pretty hot topic!
I'm a guy and I really liked the idea even before opening the thread itself! I think being a female gamer is a lot harder than being a male gamer. The OP did not forbid guys from posting, this is just a little present to a special group in our community. Actually she even went as far as to mention a male-only giveaway as well, so I don't think anyone has any reason to complain. She's giving away something for free, she has the right to decide who gets it.
I'm also perfectly fine with others' disagreeing, just don't start a flame war ;)
Just my 1.54 euro cents (regional pricing...)

Perhaps I should just quit while I'm ahead, stop trying to find different themes for my giveaways and just stop doing them, at least that way I won't get people all offended.
We are both in it for the long run can't we all just get along!
Fixed for Spelling I've been dreadfully sick lately!

I resent being called a boy. That's age-ism! :-)
It seems just about all giveaways have some sort of exclusivity here. It's interesting, to say the least, that all sorts of reasons can be used to justify who gets excluded from a giveaway (and those reasons are accepted by most - but really, isn't a rep limit a discrimination based simply on not knowing "enough" about a person and assuming they're not "worthy" to enter?), yet something as simple as gender raises the ire of some?

It's a bit depressing to see the number of people here who would jump on a simple act of kindness and call it out as some kind of dreadful injustice. Keep up the good work ddickenson! Not all of us men are morons.

Ahem
Onwards.
I think people have a real nasty habit of believing "Acknowledgement" is "Exclusion" if their group isn't allowed to participate.

The GA itself is not sexist because it's just a fuckin' GA.
The obvious problem with what you're suggesting is that we'd be arbitrarily disregarding the fact that something fits the dictionary definition just because we dislike the fact that it's associated with being something wrong.
"Sexist" isn't defined as "discriminating based on sex and BAD". The "bad" part comes from the fact that in a hell of a lot of cases that IS something bad. Not so here, but that doesn't mean that we should insist the term doesn't fit all of a sudden.
On the other hand - some people adore abusing this ambiguity to imply that things are bad just because they objectively fit a definition of something that is considered derogatory. I simply refuse to believe that the right course of action is to deny that a term has been used correctly purely because we don't want it apply in a particular case.

The same could be said with 'parity', 'equality' and 'fairness' as these notions arose in thread earlier.
Making a GA for women only is fair. It would have been unfair to open it for everyone and giving favor to women (and yes, the irony is amusing).
Making another one for men enforces parity.
Having less women than men for the same prizes in each GA makes respective odds unequal ; but it has nothing to do with parity or fairness.
The important fact is that it is a GA, I mean it's a one way street. The matter would have been different for a trade or a sale.
