ddickinson: I still can not really understand how it can be seen as sexist, especially when I am hosting one for the men and one for the women. I guess I must have some different standards for what I consider sexist, but I definitely would not consider someone's jovial giveaway to be something so sinister. It was mean as a bit of fun, a novel theme to the two giveaways, one for the men, one for the women.

Perhaps I should just quit while I'm ahead, stop trying to find different themes for my giveaways and just stop doing them, at least that way I won't get people all offended.

ddickinson: But generally I don't mind at all. The reason I don't really mind, is that the majority of games are made by men. While this does not apply to all games or all male developers, men make games they would like, that they can relate to and think other like minded men would make. That is why there is always the story of the helpless maiden and the white knight, the sexy female warrior who falls for the charm of the hero, the fact that every woman looks like a super model and is only too happy to dress "sexy" (or slutty). The games are a reflection of the men's fantasies, their imaginations, their hops and dreams. I'm sure when they were kids that most men have imagined themselves as heroic warrior defending the kingdom, slaying the beast and getting the girl. As long as the game is not blatantly sexist, then I have no problem appreciating them for what they are. I'm sure that with more and more female gamers and developers, that we will so start to see games created from a woman's prospective, full of the things we like that may not appeal to the male gamers. Personally, I do not consider the Larry games sexist. I know many do, but I think of them more of a parody of sexism. After all, the main character is a pathetic and desperate little man.

It seems just about all giveaways have some sort of exclusivity here. It's interesting, to say the least, that all sorts of reasons can be used to justify who gets excluded from a giveaway (and those reasons are accepted by most - but really, isn't a rep limit a discrimination based simply on not knowing "enough" about a person and assuming they're not "worthy" to enter?), yet something as simple as gender raises the ire of some?

"Sexist" isn't defined as "discriminating based on sex and BAD". The "bad" part comes from the fact that in a hell of a lot of cases that IS something bad. Not so here, but that doesn't mean that we should insist the term doesn't fit all of a sudden.
