Yep, I know I missed a day. Busy weekend. Anyway, continuing the birthday giveaway that started Here, today I have up for grabs a copy of Jade Empire

RULES:
1) Please enter only if you intend to play the game. I'd prefer if the game does not sit on your shelf for months/years, so enter only if you're interested in playing it pretty much right away. If you're just looking to collect for your shelf, there are plenty of other ways to fill those spaces.
2) Please do not regift/trade the game. These games are intended to be kept/used by the contest winner.
3) Must have a join date before May 2014.
4) Read the giveaway-specific rules below

Since I just discovered that one of my favorite Canadian authors (Guy Gavriel Kay) has released a sequel to Under Heaven, which has a setting based on the Tang dynasty of China, I figure this is a good reason to put Jade Empire on offer. So as an Asian theme, the contest will require anyone interested in the game to post an original haiku. Doesn't need to be anything astounding, just post me your goofy/funny/serious/whatever hiaku and you're in the draw.

I'll run this until tomorrow morning when I get back on the forums.

As usual as an added 'bonus' I'll mark the winner with the solution to the thread for a bit of rep boost as well.

Happy Birthday! Thanks for the generosity and +1!)
Just searched for the author you mentioned and his books seem interesting- I might get them- especially Under Heaven- for my e-reader ! :-)

Anyways, I'm in! And here's a haiku I just tried to make:

In the ancient times
a pretty flower grew
it still lives today

P.S.(hope I counted the syllables right!) :-)
Oh wow, Jade Empire!
Where Bioware got it right.
This summer's game. IN!

:D
More haiku, eh? I do feel ashamed that I somehow missed your actual birthday (and such a glorious number, too!), so please accept my very late but most heartfelt congratulations! (FWIW, I have been quietly up-repping your commemorative efforts)

As a fellow Canuck, I am somewhat ill versed in our literary legacy, and what little I've read has, unfortunately, felt wanting. This does seem like a good occasion to get back into it, and give GGK a shot. Ysabel seems like a well-regarded work, would that be your recommendation, or would you suggest another?

So, all meandering aside, please count me in for your very generous offering, and one of my most wanted games, Jade Empire. So, here's a haiku (if somewhat modernist ;))

GOG said one day,
"X copies at discount rates!"
Goglodyte, have you slept?

And a limerick, just for a diversion ;)

Two days had gone and Jack Keane remained,
Twelve copies left ere madness refrained,
Three hours passed,
Pray it won't last,
Hurray! there's only eleven unclaimed!

Happy birthday!
Not in, but thanks again Coelocanth for a nice GOG giveaway! +1
Wow, awesome haiku so far. Hopefully we get more entries, and great limerick, Spinorial!

His first offering (The Fionavar Tapestry) is fairly standard high fantasy, but an excellent piece of work. I highly recommend that if you're into Tolkienesque fantasy. As for his other works, I like them all, but you can't go wrong with Ysabel. A cool story. He likes to take a culture from our history and use that as the building blocks for the culture of the particular novel he's writing. Others I'd check out are:

The Lions of Al-Rassan (Spanish/Moorish)
Tigana (Italian)
Last Light of the Sun (Vikings)

But as far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong with Kay.
There once was a dog
It ate some of my chicken
It is now crispy
