Well, it is only polite to try not to start a flame war, or even arguments.

Who knows? CDP might one day consider developing a whole DD platform to cater specifically to these people.

That is the true danger of that silly thing called authentification instead of downloading standalone patches. I think I will wait until short before the end of May how TW 2 and everything around it develops and then decide after weighing everything that speaks for and against it. I like the preorder offer of GOG. They make so many things right ... and then one thing wrong which means a step back again. :/

(btw, the knee jerk reaction I was talking about was people saying they will not buy before any of the suspicions have been confirmed. Like you said, the debates on here are awesome and I have absolutely no problem with that :D )

Wow. You don't see how hypocritical that is. I won't support GOG's methods but if I happen to get a GOG copy I'll look the other way is basically what your saying. If it was such a big deal you'd boycott it entirely out of principle.

My annoying cousin is having an over the top wedding. Her engagement party was in January. She expected everyone to donate a large sum given her parents and her husband tto be parents ended up spending well over 10 grand for which if she respected her parents, wouldn't have made it nearly so extravagant given their pockets aren't lined with endless money. Worried some people might not show, she said to me to come regardless. No gift required. For me, I find it absurd to spend that kind of money on an engagement party. I already know how over the top the wedding will be which I am going to and will give a resonable gift. I wasn't going to be a hypoctite who complains about how selfish she is to throw such an over the top engagement but yet still go free for which I've been told there was an open bar and near endless servings of top class food. So I stayed home.

IMHO I think some of you guys are just whiners. This is the first new 3A RPG coming to gog and people are whining about an auto-patcher.
Personally I don't like to browse the net for patches so I like the idea that the game will update itself.

Do you mean that literally, as in "the hypocrisy levels of that are so low that you can't see 'em"? Because I fail to see anything hypocritical about it. He says he's not going to spend his money on a game with DRM and if he gets it for free, he hasn't spent his money on it.

They're not complaining that the game will be able to update from the launcher, they're complaining that downloads won't _additionally_ be available as stand alone downloads.

I find that the winners should be people who really want the game and appreciate what cdp have done, not someone who makes a huge deal because the game isn't be provided exactly on his terms. Whether you like it or not about the updater I find it a little ridculous to be playing the bait and switch or used car salesman angle.

I'm not really sure what you mean by winners. If you mean the winners of this debate/thread then I fear that there will be no winners, ever. The patcher idea doesn't really bother me and I'm buying the game on 10th. If I find the game good enough and it looks like cdp's going to go under before they release stand alone patches, I'll just make my own ones (or get ones someone else made). Nevertheless, I can understand why this whole patcher deal bothers some. It's like a love letter. The love is there even without it, but the letter makes it better. If you give someone one, they'll be all "oh snap I'm so gonna store this somewhere and read it whenever I want to so as to feel all loved and stuff" but if you're so afraid that someone else will read it (without permission!!!) that you don't actually give it to the person and they'll have to come to your house to read it, it'll lose much of its lovely aura. I have no idea what I'm talking about. :D

Probably because it's still supporting the company. No matter who payed for the game, even if you didn't, the money still gets to the company you do not want to support.
