So it stands to reason that since The Witcher 3 has been announced as coming to SteamOS, and thus Linux, and since GOG will be adding Linux support sometime in the nebulous future that the GOG version of the game will get you a Linux copy also. At least that's what I hope. I would much rather buy the game directly from GOG than Steam, but if only the Steam version will run on Linux then I'll have to begrudgingly give my money to GabeN instead (though CDPR will still get some of it).

It would be nice to get some sort of official word on this in the near future.

GoG announced official support for Ubuntu and Mint will be coming later this year... but I have to ask, what's the hurry to pre-order anyway?

I mean, even if you give them the cash in January 2015, it'll still be a pre-order and by then we'd already know a lot more about the game. Hopefully even the requirements to run it.
No doubt Witcher 3 being on Linux will be a big part of whenever they introduce their Linux support, I wouldn't worry about it.
