Well, the title explains it all. What are your thoughts on the videos/youtubers GOG has been posting along their recommended deals, so far?

I've been watching them all and, to be honest, I think GOG may have gotten a better (and cheaper) deal by asking the community to make the videos. In today's economically-driven society it's obvious they paid youtubers they could afford who had a decent following, and there's nothing wrong with that, I understand the PR and logistic reason behind it, but so far most youtubers haven't been doing that good of job, as far as I'm concerned. Some of them give off the impression they don't even know about GOG, others seem to never having played the games they're recommending at all... it's a bit sad, I mean, the guy recommending the 'A Study In Red' recommended deal (Carmageddon 2 + Hotline Miami) mostly plays MOBAs and Hearthstone... not exactly a staple of the GOG gamer. Not to mention most of them tend to erroneously explain the DRM concept.

There are a few exceptions (I can only think of one guy, actually, but it wasn't memorable enough for me to remember his name), but that's just not enough. GOG deserved a bit more love and dedication out of those videos, in my humble opinion.

It's also a shame that on the day The Enigmatic T is making his suggestion the video apparently is private.

Any thoughts on this matter, girls and guys?
I'm guessing we are not the target audience here. Just as you said, these guys have a lot of followers who are otherwise not interested in older games or the DRM-free concept. GOG is simply trying to branch out to those people through these Youtube "celebrities", and that is it. I don't mind the videos, I simply ignore them as something that's not meant for me.

Did he do the one on Icewind Dale and Aarklash Legacy? I usually watch random stuff on Force's channel and he often mentions GOG in his news and update videos. He talks about all kinds of games and he doesn't feel fake like a lot of the YouTube gaming celebrities. Granted, some of them I can't listen to at all because they don't have 'radio voices' or they seem a tad daft, but eh. =P

He might have been that one, yes!

I also liked the coverage of the Startopia and 'modern counterpart' of it bundle, I don't think it was the same guy, but at least he played about 15 minutes of each game and sounded like he was actually having loads of fun playing them. And that's what sells these promo bundles, in my opinion: showing you're having a great time with the games. You don't have to know that much about GOG or the games they asked you to review/suggest, but at least if you have fun playing them it's more than enough to recommend them.

Some links to these videos that are sponsored by GoG on YT would be nice.
I've only watched a portion of a couple of these videos. I've honestly forgotten to click the drop-down to even look at the videos almost every time.

I also agree with what drennan said in a post above about the target audience. I visit the site daily so the videos are not going to be as applicable to me personally as it may be to a new visitor. In the end, if it helps drive more traffic to GOG and the DRM-Free way of thinking more power to them.

What do you mean the video is "private"? That you can't view it? It's right there embedded on GOG's front page and if you click on "Watch on Youtube", the video opens and runs just fine on Youtube.

The link is provided in the OP of the 2013 DRM-Free Winter Sale thread (which is also always the first post on every page).

EDIT: formatting

I like them.

I watch a LOT of YouTube gamers, though, so most of the people doing the GOG videos I already am familiar with and watch.

Personally, I think they were a great idea on GOG's part, as they'll bring people to GOG that would never have even heard of the company before, particularly when you get someone like a Yogscast member recommending games.

Hope they do this again. It's great!

I can assure you the video was set to private when they first embedded it. They fixed it, I watched both parts of it, and, as expected, it's way better suited to the GOG target audience than the videos by the 'celebrities'.

I see, I only logged in a couple of hours ago and it was working fine then.

Someone's overdoing it with the holiday celebration drinking and ticked the wrong option ;-P

I agree with what drennan said: I don't think we *are* the target audience here. I don't know any of these Youtube celebrities (I'm not a Youtube person), but these kind of people do tend to have a huge following and are a good way of promoting the Winter Sale outside of GOG's established user base.
I like these videos, for the most part. I really loved Force's commentary (especially for Ultima Underworld and Legend of Grimrock, he managed to sell me those two, and I'm quite tempted by Aarklash Legacy). I quite liked Jessie Cox's videos as well (he sold me Giana Sisters, and I'm now very tempted by Volgar as well even though it's not my kind of game at all). I'm rather disappointed in the sole female gamer of the bunch (I found her really obnoxious, and she stopped me from buying Cognition even though it's on my wishlist). The rest left me indifferent.

Today's video, however, is my favourite so far. I agree that TET is far more suited for GOG videos, I'd like to see more (some Let's Plays, maybe?).
