I have just seen something I've never seen before, and then saw it TWICE in one day!!!

I installed my gog version of The Guild, and it put TWO desktop icons on my desktop, one just says "The Guild", the other says "The Guild (TnL)". I tried them both, and both appear to work and to be identical, so I was wondering if anyone knew why this was done?

AND, even though not a gog game thought I'd ask, the same thing happened when I installed Hearts of Iron (the first one). It also installed two desktop icons. One says "Hearts of Iron" and the other says "C.O.R.E." (???? that's what it says).

Again, I tried both, both appeared to work and work identically.

I don't understand.

TnL is an old term found on graphics cards. It pretty much fell out of use a decade or so ago, since literally everything supported it.

I would assume (but do not know, since I haven't played the game) that the TnL icon launches it in a hardware-accelerated mode, while the other one uses software rendering - or maybe the TnL icon just forces hardware acceleration, wihle the other one just happens to be configured that way.

No idea about the Hearts of Iron case.

JMich has answered this question in the past.
As for Hearts of Iron, I suspect that it is the C.O.R.E. mod.

Thanks a lot guys, I know I've said it before, but it really, really is appreciated.

And as usual, +1's for helping a clueless old man.
