I recently began to replay Q2 after installing it and its mission packs, which came courtesy of the Quake 4 DVD. Anyhow, I thought "I think I've been spoiled by modern texture rendering tech, as I find these textures ugly and flat and featureless. I think I'd like to give Q2 a makeover". And so I searched Google for Quake 2 High Resolution Pack. I was thusly over-inundated with a plethora (or perhaps, cornucopia?) of Texture Packs, custom engines, and some complex instructional material.
What I want from here, is a boiled-down, simple 24 or, if I'm lucky, 32-bit texture pack that I can overwrite the base texture pack with. I'm mostly looking for model textures, map and surface textures are of secondary importance to me.

Did you try that Quake 2 resolution pack that shows up first when you search in google? That one is pretty complete and awesome.
you could try http://fps.maros.pri.ee/index.php?event=1
Yeah, see, these pages have multiple, mutually exclusive packs. Which is the right one for me?
The only way to get a comprehensive texture pack for q2 is to make one yourself :'( I have been searching for years and the last update of textures was about 2009. and most of them are shitty rehashes of original textures scaled up and butchered with photoshop-esque filters. there was going to be a quake 2 Evolved: resurrection mod that looked awesome but it was being made by one guy and he lost interest and stopped production :'(
