nijuu: Sounds like a real expansion. Its not standalone is it?. Lots of stuff...might actually be worth it..

Crosmando: Surprised it's not a Terror from the Deep knockoff
Would that have been necessarily bad? (as long as it was hard.....)

This is what replaced the planned DLC after the complaints about slingshot, looks like they listened pretty well tbh...

I wouldn't expect TftD till game 2

I'd rather the if the new XCOM just didn't exist tbh, it's inferior in every department to the original except graphics, even the original XCOM on DOS had a better soundtrack
I enjoyed XCOM:EU and look forward to more. I'm going to have to check out the mod mentioned above, it sounds like it adds a lot to the strategic part of the game. The strategy part was pretty shallow, but felt like it could be improved. Hopefully it gets some love in the expansion.
This is such an instabuy for me, day 1 :)

Leg enhancements that allow us to scale walls without the skeleton suit, brain enhancements that make mind controlled characters be stunned instead of turn against you, and that's just some of the genetic stuff, let alone the Mech class you can turn one a soldier into

And there's a barn! :3
Well, the extra soldier class I can take or leave, I'd rather refinement in map design and gameplay tweaks than what are essentially add ons.

Seems unlikely that a map editor is on the horizon either.
i'm disappointed at the lack of a new campaign and the lack of fundamental fixes to the stationary-aliens gameplay
Who cares about Terror From the Deep? It's basically a reskin of the first game. Apocalypse is where it's at.

But in the meantime, this expansion is very promising indeed. Assuming it follows on from the main campaign, I wonder if there's going to be an option to be able to play right through from that.

They did promise ~40 new maps though, including urban ufo crashes, so there should be much more variety

It doesn't follow the main campaign. It works exactly like Gods and Kings. You play the same campaign (may have a few new things, not sure) but with all the extra tactical goodness.

Ah, I see. So it's an even better excuse to replay the main campaign then. Works for me! (so long as there's enough new content)
XCOM: Enemy Within Revealed: First Gameplay and Details from XCOM's Rocket-Punching Expansion
Mostly good stuff, but they are just adding more maps instead making a random map generator and I don't see anything about free roaming aliens (although some will now fire at first detection).

From what I read, they wanted it but it's one of the first things they had to cave (back in development) on because the engine just doesn't properly support it, something to that extent.
Well on the up side, hand crafted maps are always better in detail and design.
It would be better if they just made a map pack to have a bigger pool to cycle during the campaign instead the crap Slingshot was.
