I have an emachines netbook which is generally pretty bad for gaming but can run games like Swat 4 and Deus Ex without much trouble (sometimes Deus Ex gets stuttery in large open areas or moments of intense combat). I am not sure if Neverwinter Nights will run on it without issue, though, and I don't want to spend $9.99 only to have a game I won't be able to play until I get a real PC.

Has anyone tried running this game on a low-end netbook, and if so, how was it?

With a game as old as this i would expect that on low settings it would run perfectly fine on a netbook.

Might be worth downloading and trying the demo first.

I got it running on my EEE 701 on Linux. On this machine it runs a bit too slow to recommend to anyone.

I have it on discs only, so can't test it on my eeepc 1001px, but since performance with NWN can be pretty disappointing on even some of the better new graphics card, I wouldn't get my hopes up with an integrated graphics chip and netbook cpu.

Also, I do believe that the graphics engine was updated with HOTU, so maybe performance with the demo of the original campaign would differ from the full game.

The game must be played with everything on low on my Asus EEE (Win XP but with 2 GB RAM). Still on big battles keeps slowing down. Its not recommended but it can be done.

I finished HotU a few days ago and i was not disappointed, some patience or good will required tho :D

Only slightly I think, eitherway its a good idicator if it will run at all.

If your netbook is from the same generation, I would have no hesitation in buying the game.

I remember having some framerate issues on my old MacBook running XP through bootcamp. It has the same integrated graphics that my current netbook does. I tried it on there and the performance is about the same. It isn't great but it's somewhat playable. A good test is to fire up the Kingmaker premium module. Make sure you update DirectX to the latest version. I forgot to do this and I had some weird graphic problems, but updating DirectX seemed to fix them.

Works great on my 1201PN.

I also recall reading on Bioware's website that they added some graphical improvements in the last patch (1.69), which could hurt performance. Not to mention that some custom content out there can also be more taxing than the official campaigns (especially modules that use larger maps)... And there are, IMO, quite a few of them that are better than Bioware's campaigns.

edit: just to make it clear: I'm just saying to be careful with the performance you'll get with the demo - I haven't tested NWN on a netbook myself and don't know how it works. My advice would be to look at the frame rate you get with the demo and make sure there is some headroom.

Looks like your netbook far exceeds the minimum requirements, you might actually be able to play in medium or high quality settings.
