I know that GOG doesn't have NWN 2, at least not yet, but this is the NWN forum here, so what the heck.

A friend of mine has offered to give me his retail copy of NWN 2 Gold. It includes the original NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer. I've done a little searching online, and from what I've read, quite a few of the members over on the Bioware forum reported last year that they were having issues with a dll file in Win7x64 build 7100. The members that were using build 7127 said the game was running just fine. Apparently the new build corrected the problem.

So I assume that it should run fine on Win7x64 final, but since I'm a member in this forum here, then I might as well ask. Anyone running the retail version of NWN2 on Win7x64? If so, did you have any issues?

Thanks

Edit: Well I've done some more searching and found a few more threads of people saying that it runs just fine on Win7 and x64 too. So, I think I'll take my friend up on his offer.

Works fine here.....
Yes it does work, I run the same setup. You may want to search how to install it, I believe you need an older version of directX.
Thanks for the responses. It looks like I'll be installing the retail copy of NWN2 that my friend is giving me, and I found out that Atari removed the DRM with the latest patch.

However, if GOG offers NWN2 with all of it's expansions, then I will most likely buy it, because I only have one expansion with this gold edition.

NWN2 value is also really seen with the user made mods and worlds. You will probably also want the Storm of Zehir expansion along with MoTB because many of the mods/worlds will require it. I easily spent much more time/had more enjoyment playing user mods than the original NWN2 campaign. You may want to play the OC just to become familiar with The Sword Coast.
I liked NWN2 quite a bit, although it got some flak when it came out. Mainly because of it's ridiculous system requirements (it will run alright on any modern machine, but when it was released it was laughable how slow it ran on even a powerful computer, without looking good enough to justify it) and a generally unpolished feel that it had (if you ever played KOTOR 2, you know what I mean).

But, despite it's drawbacks it had a great battle system (my favorite of the computer DND games) and some memorable characters and moments in the main quest. The banter between the characters is charming and it is something that is painfully missing from NWN1's single player campaign.

Character development is very deep, easy to understand and fun to customize as well.
I know my fiancee who doesn't get into many games loved NWN2, sure it probably needed a few more months in development but it was a good game.

The system specs were horrible, I still can't play it on full even though I can with Dragon Age.
I'll be honest: I think the original campaign in NWN2 was better then the oc in NWN1. I still have NWN2 installed on my pc... I"m trying to hunt down the one expansion I don't have, plus I want to get the Ossian Studios pack that came out for it.

Good game, under-rated imho.

I'm running on x64 version of Vista btw.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I just got the game a few hours ago, and I was looking at the system requirements. Considering that was 4yrs ago,...*chuckles*, I agree with you. That's pretty high system requirements. That was when everyone was running single processors on AGP mobos. Maybe some had PCIe 1.0 too.

I looked at those requirements, and was actually glad at first, because it gave me the hope that the game will look pretty nice, but as you alluded to, maybe not nice enough to justify it. I'll install it tomorrow and check it out. I looked at some game play video yesterday, and it looked ok from the little that I watched. Certainly a lot better than BG and Planescape. :D

I think it'll be nice to play a little more recent RPG D&D game for a change. I bought Planescape: Torment right after GOG released it. I never played it whenever it was originally released. I heard a lot of positive comments about it. I can see why it is so highly praised also. I played it over several weeks, and I had to start over several times, because I kept having problems with it. Mainly crashes. Anyway, the story is great, but after playing modern RPGs, it's kinda hard to for me to role play whenever the protagonist and everyone else is two inches tall on my monitor. No one really has a face. That and very little VA and a lot of reading. It felt more like I was reading a freakin novel than playing a RPG. :) Of course that was when CDs were the medium of the day, and the game shipped with 4 of them as it was, I think. Probably wasn't very feasible to have VA throughout the whole game. These modern games are spoiling me a little...

With MWN I had resolution issues. Will this run okay in, say, 1280x800?

EDIT: seen the '2' in the title now, sorry :) will post somewere else

why would you not want to install the patches? who CARES if the unpatched version has bugs, patch it to latest version and then play.

NWN2 was a completely unplayably broken game until the mask of the betrayer expansion pack. the publisher, atari, hates supporting games and loves forcing developers to release early unfinished products. The developers invested a lot of time and effort to fix bugs during the expansion development (sorta going behind arari's back)... but the first expansion itself was not really playable then.
The second expansion fixed the first expansion, but was itself very buggy... you can use the latest patches and community made bug fixes to make it playable (buggy, but playable)

Anyways, the real issue is that you completely misunderstood the people in that forum... 7100 and 7127 are WINDOWS versions not NWN2 versions.
that is, some people were using a beta version of windows 7, and it gave them problems. Since you are obviously using the final version of windows and not a beta, then it shouldn't apply.

I think you misunderstood my posts. ;) No one said anything about not wanting to install patches.

I thought it was fairly clear that I was discussing Windows7 "builds", not game versions in my op. I understood perfectly what was being discussed on the Bioware Forum.

so wait, you are actually using a beta version of windows 7?
get the retail version and install all the patches.

whether NWN2 will work with a beta version of windows I don't know, you yourself said that you have seen people report that it doesn't.
No, I'm not using the beta version of anything.

Here is a quote from my op:

"So I assume that it should run fine on Win7x64 final, but since I'm a member in this forum here, then I might as well ask. Anyone running the retail version of NWN2 on Win7x64? If so, did you have any issues?"

^That's it right there.
