I started my witcher 2 game on normal, struggled quite a bit through the prologue and also with the first few hunting missions in chapter 1.. alot of people have commented on the difficulty of the game. (especially early on) This was without any DLC at all

after all the DLC has been offered to us, I decided i'd start a new game.. and it felt extremely easy, perhaps some of these items are little to strong for the very early part of the game?

Maybe it was just that I had experience with the control and combat system as well, but really it felt like night and day

Yes, I think the ENTIRELY OPTIONAL dlc makes the opening portion of the game a bit easier. Based on the popular complaints of the game, this can only be a good thing. Now, if people choose to, they can have a little extra armor to handle the prologue with.
