If Geralt dies during a battle the Gave Over screen comes on and askes if you want to reload previous game.

I click YES and gheesh! it takes along time to reload. The music plays for maybe 2-3 minutes, then that screen disappears, then the screen with the arrow spinning comes on.

I have alot of save games I haven't deleted yet. Could this be the problem or is this just the way the game is? (I'm on a lower resolution)
It takes 30 to 40 seconds for me. It is annoying.

I'd be happy with 30-40 seconds!
I would try to move/delete most of your old save games (just stick them in a backup folder somewhere), and see if it helps. Since the major delay is when you click yes, before the actual loading screen pops up, it definitely sounds related to that.

If you need help organising and otherwise maintaining your save files, there are two very handy tools available at the Nexus. Which one you choose comes down to personal preference, but they both work very well. ; [url=http://witchernexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=176]Link 2

As Kindo has stated, both The Witcher games suffer from save game congestion.

The more saves you have, the longer game loads take.

The only solution is to only have a few saves in the save game folder.

If I only have a few, mine will load in 10-15 seconds.

Any more than that, and it can take over a minute.
I never had issues with long loading times for "Save Game" load, with respect to number of save files on the system in Witcher 2. The only time where i would experience a small bit delay in responsiveness of the UI is when I list out the save game lists and the small interrupt halts when the images for the save state is displayed for each one.

(I wish the game UI actually caches in the images for the save file list; atleast for the first/top few ones and for others it can slowly fade out from black placeholder to image without causing those halts. Its almost as if loading the save state images have MORE priority than the other portions, almost real time priority_against the game itself)

-edit-

Note: As long as the memory doesn't get populated with new game data, the same game loads will always be faster...especially in Windows 7***. Like reloading the same level will be faster...but loading a new one(level/portion/location) will mean clearing out current memory and re-populating it with new data, issue is magnified if page file on the HDD is utilized for the game, with either cleaning or re-populating. Also attributes to streaming data issues in the game, like some users reported shuttering when moving or when HDD lights blinks while moving from idle.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I guess I'll just take the time to delete my saves (there is ALOT!)
Try playing around with some of the graphics settings in the Launcher. I had mine Autodetect and was having lots of problems loading games, especially when first starting the game. We're talking 10-15 minutes load times on a very decent rig. I tried moving save game files and it didn't work. I went into the Advanced Graphics in the Launcher, and fiddled with some settings (Shadows mostly) and my games now take less than a minute to l.oad every time.
When I load the game in the first time is quite long... But its normal, my computer is not a beast. The same happens in The witcher.

If I die in the game or load another save, those loads are shorter.
