Hey, I'm all for encouraging people to pay for the games they play, but sending bullying letters to *suspected* illegal downloaders just doesn't sit well with me.

912 Euros is not "outlandish" as the article claims. This is a common order of magnitude for the so called "Abmahnungen" common in copyright law.

The article mentions not protecting/encrypting your WiFi. In Germany, this does not acquit you from your responsibility for what happens over your connection - i.e., if you don't take proper care of your WiFi, you are responsible for the actions of third parties using your WiFi. "Thir parties" does include family members, guests, etc.

The rest is just the usual drivel about a copy not being a lost sale, etc. Probably no one at CDP thinks that. However, copying is still illegal, is to be discouraged and the system in place in Germany does just that. 912 Euros is not an outlandish claim, but still enough to hurt. As it should - I can see nothing "grotesque" about it.

Anyone who is the victim of a false positive has the recourse of the legal system.

I used to think that is the right course of action, just before a week ago. (being pro-piracy-hater, fighting_ahem_discussing about why piracy is bad and so; some of it in the Witcher 2's GOG forums itself..).

But.....citing some odd developments recently and re-reading the above news (it was posted earlier at some other articles), I come to understand some CDP's rare stray negative points and posted an immediate closure of GOG.com account to the GOG.com support (hell I'll be happy if they reply soon with the procedure).

My GOG.com experience started with buying a copy of 'Witcher 2' and will end with 'Witcher 2's adventure, wish to be clean of CDP* in whole...forever.
