I'm running 2.0 on my Radeon 4870 X2 (I also ran into this problem on my GTX 560 Ti, but that card is faulty with all games and is going back on Monday).

I'm playing the game, and the performance is fine for the hardware I'm running, but suddenly the game simply exits/crashes. No error or anything, it simply exits to the launcher.

This is random. It usually happens within 30 minutes, but has lasted over an hour before.

I'm trying to work out if it's a PC problem or a game problem. Anyone else having this?

Edit: I should add I'm using the latest drivers, and here's my specifications:

CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V PRO Z68
RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Vengeance Memory Kit CL9 1.5V
HDD: Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint F4 2TB Hard Drive
PSU: Hiper M1000 1000W
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster P2270 HD (displaying at 1920x1080)
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 4870 X2 (also had same problems with Asus GTX 560 Ti DirectCU II)

I had this. Did you disable the pagefile by chance? Also try setting "Texture Memory Size (MB)" to medium or small.

I haven't disabled the pagefile - this is pretty much a clean install of Windows. Should I?

Also, "Texture Memory Size (MB)" is already set to Small.

No don't disable it. I had 4GB of RAM and without a pagefile I always got low memory messages(could only be seen if you Alt+Tabed) and after a while usually 20-40 mins the game closed depending on how high I set the Texture Memory Size.

I know your 8GB should be plentiful, but was worth checking out whether you had the same prob as me, cuz now you know that you don't. Unfortunately now I've no idea why it shuts down for you. :-(
Thank you for taking the time to help, but the problems have spread beyond The Witcher 2 and into my other games (again), which led me to suspect hardware fault.

Tested the 4870X2 in another machine, wasn't that. So I put in an RMA request to return all my new parts (since I have no way of diagnosing the problem), and the retailer I'd bought them from helped me troubleshoot the problem to a faulty CPU, which failed Prime95's torture tests in under an hour (!!!).

I'm going to assume that's the fault, but if they're still present once I get my new parts (and I've troubleshooted the hardware), I'll start a new thread.

Figured I'd update this, in case anyone has a similar problem with a new build playing The Witcher 2 (and other games) and finds this page through Google. Run Memtest86, 3DMark11 and Prime95. Between those three, your problem should hopefully be apparent. :)

Thanks again.
