the fine merchants in the Withcer 2 sure know how to turn a profit. And Geralt seems to enjoy getting ripped off.

The same merchant I just dealt with was now selling them for 320+ ormen!
The reason for the high markup is to discourage thievery and shoplifting!! Shoplifting costs all consumers, they are paying Geralt (the master thief) for all his mischief...if there was a sleeping baby Geralt would steal its bottle!! I've seen Geralt steal rags for crying out loud(O, that was me as Geralt) Usual games I played the ratio for resale was 10 to 1 like the First Witcher....prices have gone up in Poland!!

Sigh, in Act 3, I played dice poker for an hour to make 2,000 gold for the Vran armour, plus a couple hundred more to get the last steel sword... the one that starts with a C.. can't remember the name...

And then in Act 2 I spent a super long time arm wrestling with the dwarves in the tavern (makes more money than poker) to be able to afford the Dragonscale armour.

I know you can increase your haggle skill by 1, and I was able to get that unlocked, but I can't for the life of me remember what did it
Geralt is a Witcher. Like in TW1 his skills may be profitable if you know what to gather and resell... Chapter 2 if you play Iorveth's path? Harpy's feathers. You can make a fortune with those and they are not even hard to come by with all the harpies in the area. Of course picking up some alchemy skill (more precisely the one that allows you to gather up to 3 times the basic amount of ingredients) helps a lot. With this alchemy skill and just one go in the harpy pit you can bring enough to make about 450-500 orens.

Just pay attention in each chapter to what monster part will bring the most money according to the availability of the said monster in the area and go hunt. Personally I didn't even tried to complete the Harpies nests quest as leaving them proliferate is much more profitable.

Yeah, the economy system is really fucked up.
I found it bearable just cause I imported my save from the first game and i was simply full of money.

my money never transfered
Here's a better question. Why do mutagens sell so well? I'm pretty sure normal people can't use them. :p

Unless you're avoiding monster fights constantly, selling mutagens should have you rolling in money. I didn't even bother looting human enemies for their swords and crap, as the weight to profit margin is so much smaller for those types of items.
wow thata great sword... 14 orans

*immediately puts it up for sale for 300 orans*
/bump
I wish that I could AXII those shrewd merchants :)

When I imported I only got around 500 Oreo's, I had over 37,000 from Wickeder 1 and I guess taxes in Poland are outragous!!

.... or use my trusty sword to impale them .... course hes suppose to not want to hurt humans. but still selling something for 5 and them selling it for 200 would make most pacifists kill. its worse then selling your game to gamestop

Really? I used a save i found on the web with neutral path (mine were gone a long time ago) and I started with 200,000 orens.
Which is an obscene amout of money on this game.

That's because the save you downloaded was done by someone who had cheated and likely had a gazillion orens. The imported saves give you a percent of the money you had from the first game. ;)

Normal players will likely only import a few hundred oren. If you're importing more, it's a dead certainty a gold cheat was used in the first game.

Though, for those looking for lots of money and who don't know how to hex edit, using a gold cheat on the first game is an easy way to make money pointless in the second.

Of course, mutagens drop like flies and sell for lots, so I'm not sure why anyone is in need of cheating for money in the first place.

I would have liked a system with honnest prices on merchant's side (say 1/2 ratio) but a limited amount of money in each shop (oblivion style), balance would have been the same.

Let's take a standard item, like the Blue Mountain Sword. This is a common find early in the game. I collected like 8 of these (dealt with the weight issues too) and sold them for about 18 ormen a pop.

The same merchant I just dealt with was now selling them for 320+ ormen!

WTF!

While I have no intention of buying the sword back, this is a huge pain when dealing with Iron Ore, for example. It weighs a ton, so I have to sell about 20 at a time to decrease my load. If I want to buy it back it sells for 5 times what I sold it for!

Gamers should be able to receive anywhere from at least a third to half of the items value. Why Geralt settles for such low prices is beyond me.
Well, if you read any of the books, you would know that he received a minor brain damage when he took the mutagen at a young age. As a result he sucks at haggling and math.
