every time a w2 patch releases I am force to reinstall so the patch will go through. but the game doesn't auto update past the gog day 0 patch. I have to manually do the patching to 1.1 and the rest.

how do I make it so the game auto updates?

at this point you can't. The devs mentioned somwhere they removed the autoupdate feature for the time beeing.

but I have never been able to use the auto update feature :( it isn't just recently.

Autoupdate has been deactivated for some time now, i think, but you can download the patch here:
http://www.en.thewitcher.com/patch1-3/
