I have no idea where is official forum, so I'll try this place. I just bought retail version of the game and after installing it just won't start. When I enter activation code in the appeared window, it says "it is going to check for updates" and then disappear and when I start game again the same thing happens all the time. I tried capital letters, normal letters, with "-", without it, checked my internet connection but nothing seems to work. I got Win7 64bit. And I checked FAQ on thewitcher.com - there is no clear answer for it, just suggestion to check time when activation servers are online. It is the biggest disappointment so far, seems like this money are in vain.
added later: I got it sorted just now. In case if anyone will encounter same problem: it seems like game needs to download some files from internet in order to activate the game, and my firewall was blocking it without any notifications, so just turn firewall off
