When I heard the patch was going to add a 'junk' category to the inventory to filter out useless items that wouldn't be needed for quests or alchemy I was understandably pleased.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works in the game. The 'junk' tab, for some reason, also includes most of my alchemical formulae and crafting diagrams, as I found out when I accidentally sold a few while clearing out what I thought was unwanted stuff to sell.

Is this a glitch of some sort or is that how it is for everyone? Because it somewhat defeats the purpose of the 'Junk' tab if I still have to manually sort through the list to ensure I don't sell anything useful.
Do you have a mod that adds (edited) diagrams? Then you'll need an updated version and bug the modder to do that if they haven't done so already.

Otherwise, first I've heard about regular items landing in the junk.

I haven't had any issues with that, but then again, I have no mods for diagrams either.

Sounds to me like you haven't updated your installed version of the CEO mod.
Change log entry:
• Removed the 'other' sorting tag for all the schematics, so that they don't end up in the junk category. (1.3 compatibility fix.)

That's exactly it. In 1.2, all diagrams had the sorting tag 'other,' which in 1.3 will put them in the junk category. This tag was removed in 1.3, when they added that category, so CEO had to be updated for this reason. The same will apply to any other mod that you may be using, that alters diagrams and formulae, and that hasn't been updated for 1.3.

Strange. Then to answer the question in your original post, no, that's not how it is for everyone. Do you have any mods installed, or are you totally mod-less?
Make absolutely sure that there are no custom .dzip files in the CookedPC folder, and that The Witcher 2\CookedPC\items folder is completely empty (or that the items folder doesn't exist at all to begin with). Because those tags should have been changed in the core game with 1.3, and I don't see how it would selectively fail to patch only those files.
I have some problems still with the game but junk-tab really is junk.. In prologue I hated when my save-imported raven armor changed in that freaking hooded thing.. But it's not a biggie.
Why games even give us junk.. of course for the money but still.. *pause* Well, now it's easier to see what is crap. Have really not any problems but the dice-game with controller. Also I would like to take that weird force-turn in doors.
Really wasn't sure about that game when i couple times tried with that right after first witcher. But by god.. It's great.

Edit: meaning that "junk-tab really is junk." I have seen only there crap so it works for me. =)

Apparently, there are some hints within the game files saying that most items in the game - at least the junk items - you were supposed to be able to dismantle into more useful crafting materials. The mod Junk Dismantling attempts to restore this function, and does it very well, I must say.

But didn't they sort that in 1.3 patch? I just like the chest's in inns like in first one. but I hate that dices fly off the board and even before that.. I cannot re-roll.
Otherwise.. great game as said. =)

Edit: now I read it and now I get it.

That may be it. However given half my mods involve items I don't know where to put the xml files if not in an items folder.

I know that the weightless recipes schematics mod included this bug before updating to 1.3, so I would reccommend testing your game with anything that mods def_item_schematics.xml removed.

To do this, simply go to cookedPC\items as above, and move the def_item_schematics.xml into a folder called temp or something. This is the only one you should need to change.

If you have merged def_item_schemtaics from several mods (doesn't sound like you have) or it includes changes you wish to keep, you can manually edit it to gain compatibility.

To do this, (you may want to create a backup copy first) open def_item_schematics.xml with notepad or a similar text editor, now go to each entry, and manually delete the phrase SortTypeOther under the heading <tags>.

To insure you do this correctly, you can simply search for the phrase, ie, on the menu bar choose edit->find and type SortTypeOther, then delete each entry as it appears.

Sorry if my explanation was overly simplistic, I don't mean to offend, just making sure I was clear, as I don't know how proficient you are :)

Hope this helps :) Good Luck!
