SlackerSupreme: Well there's a lot of entities that award GOTY. Some seperate them into categories by platform, some by genre, some by both.

I'd be unable to compare it to LA Noire or Portal2, as I'll never play those games. As for the RPG genre, and Skyrim, we'll see.

ichobi: Yeah I only mean RPG category. As far as I am concerned this year Withcer 2 is probably the best PC release, and best RPG thus far.
And a big HALLELUJAH for that..Its not the end of the world yet... But certainly the Second Coming for RPG's

Kordac: I just finished the game and I din't think the ending was bad at all, what was your criticisms of it?
Namely the fact that major plot points and characters are unceremoniously abandoned or tied up poorly. Also, it felt like half of the game was cut out.
The game IS incredible. CDPred should be very, very proud.

No game is perfect. Some flaws have been universally noted. Every individual taste can not be accounted for (wonderful modders follow this franchise, though).

Overall : Stunning art design and graphics, great combat, great story, great acting, great mo-cap...

The attention to detail carried over to every aspect. There should be an award for least bugs in a new release. (I know some people have had game-breaking graphics problems or problems with downloader. But that seems to be about it. There are, what, a few crafting patterns that aren't right? An inopportune autosave or lack thereof in one or two places?)

Amazing job, CDPred!
Just got to Flotsam, and am just blown away. Talk about immersive! I mean holy crap, it feels like I'm in a medieval town, not one of fantasy, not on my computer but actually there. The ambiance (sounds, lighting, people) is indescribable. The more I play this game, the more I get sucked in.

The only drawback: I think it would have been extremely cool to play while on the ship...talk to Roche, spend time with Triss (who I am LOVING, btw), play Dice, arm wrestle, etc.
There are 16 different endings in witcher 2 and i've heard some of them tie up the game worse than other endings. The one i got was pretty much perfect and left no notable holes/questions at all.

So, besides the amazing story (I'm still only in Act 1, so no spoilers please), characters and visuals, and aside from the slightly iffy UI that will hopefully be addressed in due course, one of the things which I just realised I was enjoying so much right now is the sense of danger the game creates.
It has been a long time since I have played something where I felt genuinely relieved to make it back to a safe town/village and get out of the dangerous forest. I think Flotsam and its surroundings creates this atmosphere perfectly. I'm concerned for Geralt to go wandering out too far and late at night as I know that I may die quite easily. Having to be cautious and aware is so great. Having said that, storyline is still first and foremost my most important criteria, but this element of danger is quite refreshing for me.

I just got to the end of act 3, where all your decisions through the game all come to a head... and while trying to avoid spoilers, I am just floored. I am so replaying this to see the other options. Right after I replay the ending, I don't like the ending scenario I ended up with and it's one I think I can fix relatively late in the game.... I had promised myself I'd play it 'pure' and keep my decisions, but... damn. I fucked up. Also the plot advanced faster than I anticipated so missed out on crafting a great set of armor. But I am glad I got to see this ending, cus it was epic to an astounding degree. and my mind is just reeling with all the layers and twists that led to this point.

eta: I see now my opinion on the ending obviously differs from some here. while i do agree it seemed like you barely got to see the final location before you get to the end, I think this was intentional, rising action to a climax. They didn't want to lose the momentum they had built up. the previous events/revelations had instilled a sense of urgency, after all. You're not really supposed to be dawdling around picking flowers. From a storytelling perspective it was brilliant, from a gameplay perspective I agree it felt a bit frustrating at how fast it moved. Games are a funny thing when it comes to pacing due to player freedom. Give them too much freedom, the story suffers, loses momentum. Give them too little, it feels confining. Also, I didn't notice any dangling plotlines in my ending, but it does have 16 endings, maybe some are just tighter than others.

Last night, I just finished a large seige battle, and it also happily coincided with me reaching the highest ranking combat abilities, the ones that unlock the adrenaline bar and special finishers.

I was blown away all over again, the battle was thrilling, and Geralt kicked some serious butt. Any doubts I had about GOTY, at least, my GOTY, evaporated. This game is incredible.

What is truly amazing is how ambitious this game is in terms of graphics and its relatively bug-free.

Compared to the Witcher 1 where it took many patches to bring the game to a stable and playable state, the Witcher 2 is a fantastic achievement.

I would say compared to any game, not just the Witcher 1, that the Witcher 2 is a fantastic achievement. It is truly incredible what CD Projekt has done.
Finished the game yesterday and I have to agree that the game is absolutely superb. Loved the ending I ended up with too. Biggest gripe is that it just keeps crashing all the time on my PC, but I guess it's a testament to how awesome TW2 is that I kept playing anyway.

For me, the biggest improvement over TW1 is that TW2 actually made me care about the characters. The first game never managed to really make me care about them, not even Triss or Geralt. In TW2 however, they really grew on me, even some of the "bad guys", to the point that I'd say it has one of the most memorable cast of characters I've seen in a video game to date.
In TW1, I didn't really care about the Squirrels, but in TW2, their fight for freedom actually touched a chord with me, and I fully supported them. I really think CD Projekt did a great job with Iorveth. I hope he's in the next game!
I absolutely loved the whole game and the ending too.

ALL characters are just so incredibly well done...whoever wrote this game needs a raise!

I mean, Sapkowski himself would have to be proud if he ever played it...

Just stunning on all levels and my GOT5Y (game of the last 5 years).
Best game I ever played, period. CDP RED deserves this game to be a blockbuster hit. Totally worth 50 bucks! I hope there are expansions coming because I can't wait for TW3
