upon downloading the game seemed to autopatch but i checked the version (c:/programfilesx86/gog.com/the witcher 2/bin/witcher2.exe -- properties -- details) & it's 1.0.6 file version and 0.0.0.0 product version. in addition i can't locate any additional content. i downloaded using the gog.com downloader and let the file checker run, in fact i've reinstalled twice now. i feel like an idiot, but what am i doing wrong?

i also checked the FAQ and dont see any 'additional content' option under - my account - witcher 2 on gog.com.

The patch that's installed straight after the game installation is a "day 1" patch that removes DRM.

The rest of the patches, you will need to download and install manually:

http://www.thewitcher.com/patch1-35/

Don't bother trying to do any of that via the launcher as it doesn't work properly. so do everything manually.

EDIT: The patches include all DLC, if you want the other extras like videos and wallpaper etc, you can access that from your GoG account.

Once patched, you can check the version numbers:

Patch v1.1 = v1.1.6157.43917.

Patch v1.2 = v1.2.6276.44681

Patch v1.3 = v1.3.6720.47945

Patch v1.35 (Hotfix) = v1.3.7010.49836

thanks! i somehow missed that you could scroll down past the 7 main game files (even though i could swear i checked that).

for other noobs, it does appear the autopatcher available for DL from GOG.com does work; from there i was able to update to 1.3 then manually to 1.35 and i do now have the correct version #.
This is the first game i have bought from GOG and the patching process is making me wish i'd just bought it off steam

haha, you didn't know Steam patching process was much worse than GoG before patch v 1.3 didn't you?

I confess, i just assumed it was the regular auto-download pain-free experience

I have managed to get this working now by first downloading the autopatcher application (which is not the same as the updater in the game folder).

Once the downloaded autopatcher ran, it installed 1.3. When i tried to launch the game, the launchpad patcher downloaded 1.3.5

So far by my count i've had to use 3 different flavours of "autopatchers" (the install day 1 DRM removal patcher, the separate downloaded autopatcher, and the launchpad autopatcher) to get the game to 1.3.5, which is frankly ridiculous.

.. not to mention that when I first installed, the game told me i needed to register it to receive patches.

So i had to create a thewitcher.com account , another login to remember, not the same as my GOG login (why!?) , only to then read on the forums that you no longer have to register the game to receive updates since patch 1.2

Overall, a thoroughly shoddy install process

Believe me, that is better than waiting for another 9GB chunk in Steam. I too did the same as you, since many requested an offline patch and the autopatch in the launcher itself is buggy, i don't have choice. But i don't think it is too inconvenience.
Many first day customer on Steam regretted not purchased the game on GoG at that time when patch v 1.2 was released (ridiculous 9GB patch). Though i think the issue now has been solved.

Because GoG and The Witcher although sister company, they're different entities. Your GoG account has nothing to do with Witcher account. It is like asking why my Dream Pinball 3D login account isn't same as GoG. You get what i mean. Furthermore, they remove the registration process altogether regardless of which version (Steam, retail etc,) to make the product completely DRM-free and you already receive all the extra and exclusive DLC for free in patch v 1.2.
And i read the DRM on retail version make the game run much slower than GoG version, so they decided to remove it completely. Don't you think the hassle you're facing just now is for greater good of cause?
