I've tried searching this and other forums for answers, but didn't encounter anything about the problem I have specifically.

I have HP Pavilion dv6 laptop, which has ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6370 video card, and latest drivers are installed. The version of the game is 1.35 (and yeah, it's the GOG.com game with the patch downloaded also from here), it never randomly crashed on me.

But now, it crashes. And not randomly, but at a very specific spot: during the Prelude to War: Kaedwen quest. When we play as Geralt and escort the king out, after we beat the second wave of Wraiths preventing Dethmold to cast the protective spell, he says that we're almost out of the mist, and at a certain point (and I kinda presume that there should be a third wave of wraiths there) it just exits the game without saying anything.

I've replayed the quest several times (which was quite time-consuming, considering we're not allowed to save at any point in the quest), 4 to be exact, and it crashes at the very same moment.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
Update your graphics driver from AMD.

If it's the latest one already, try an earlier version.

Build your own PC.
Do you realize how unhelpful it is to tell a laptop user to go build their own PC? Spend some money and build a PC with good enough specs is obviously going to solve most technical problems.

Farlander1991 we can't tell whether your laptop is below minimum specs, but if you've gotten so far into the game already, I assume you haven't had any problems yet.

If you haven't tried this yet - turn ALL graphics settings down to as low as possible and see if you can get through that part?

If that doesn't help, one thing you can resort to is to give your save to a friend also playing this game and get them to get past that part for you. You could even try uploading it to a forum and see if some nice random would be willing to help. I've seen a few people do this for kayran saves on the official forums.

Unless he finds a user with the exact same computer as him he's out of luck and everything else you say in the process of helping through a forum is:

Speculate.
Try
Speculate.

Repeat until you get lucky.

And all that in hopes of feeling more helpful. It's all just b.s.
I've gamed in a laptop not built for gaming. I know how it goes. If someone is gaming on a laptop and asking why he's having problems THAT'S the best real answer. The rest is just benevolent bullshit.
Unless he finds a user with the exact same computer as him he's out of luck and everything else you say in the process of helping through a forum is:
I don't think you understand what I'm suggesting.

He doesn't need a user with the exact same computer.

The point isn't about replicating the 'bug'.

All he needs to do is give his save game to another Witcher 2 player. The person loads up the save game, finishes the part that he gets stuck on, and gives the save file back to him.

Of course, you'd have to trust that player to not screw up your save, hence... find a friend who also plays witcher 2.

Your reply is unhelpful because people who use laptops, generally use them for a reason and not on a whim. Suggesting something that he can actually try and might help, would be helpful. If you can't suggest a possible solution, why are you posting anyway?

Laptops on a whim. I would believe you 5 years ago. Nowadays, that's not the case as the mobile market rises the desktop market declines. The savegame approach would help. UNtil the next game comes around.
Until quantum optical computers where Joule effect does not play a significant part on the design are a reality playing on a laptop is simply crippling yourself. If you want help with that the best approach is to tell the truth, whether is likeable or not.

I'm not sure what your point is.

Some of us have gaming PCs, we build our own computers speced with gaming in mind.

I agree that playing on a laptop is not ideal, but telling someone to build their own PC (or even buy a new PC) is useless. You are either being thick or purpose or you are just failing to understand why people have laptops.

The poster could be a high school kid that has a laptop from school (my high school required everyone to have laptops), so does not also have a desktop. The poster could have a laptop for some reason and can't also afford a desktop. A lot of people simply don't have the knowledge, or just interest, to build their own PCs. He could be someone who has a PC but still wants to be able to play on a laptop when travelling. Or he could be a casual gamer, why would he want to get a new PC just to play games?

He has a problem with the game on his laptop, and he's asking for a way to fix it (for his laptop). Your suggestion doesn't answer that (it doesn't let him play the game on his laptop). It's also not immediately helpful - most people can't just 'build their own PC' at the drop of a hat, or just happen to have the money on hand to buy or get someone else to build one for them.
