UnConeD: I simply don't get it.

Do the developers not want people to play this game? It's like the game refuses to be enjoyed.

The Set-up

First of all: the set up process. Go to GOG, buy game, be asked to download 9 separate parts? What? Uh okay, I guess I'll have to use this GOG downloader? I wait for ages.... Yay! It finally says 2 minutes remaining. I'll just go make myself a snack and get ready for some awesome RPG fun! Oh wait, it now says it needs to combine and verify the download first. How long is this going to take? Who knows? The program clearly doesn't.
I got a 256 KiloBits internet connection and I downloaded Witcher 2 from GOG in that speeds...Took more than a week to download the game..and when it did it was perfect.

-> What the hell are you complaining about.. <-

(Meta: I pretty much stopped reader the OP's post after that, its just spam........)

-Edit-

Yeah..you might ask why I got it from GOG, because when I emailed CDPR support about the availability of a hard copy when the game was released; they replied they currently do not have plans to do so. (but it appears now_recently they do, someone I met in the 'Witcher 2' forums even got a free first hardcopy in my country before the game hit stores..lucky chap ;) )

Being a software developer doesn't mean all of your point are true and valid. The only part i can agree with you is The combat. Others.. i just think you didn't do your homework or research about the product that you're going to buy. Heck, you didn't even aware of Witcher is based on the book thus the signs didn't have that generic name suggested by you. Regarding the block didn't absorb all damage, well this supposed to be Action RPG game, of course your character will feel weak at the beginning. You can allocate your point/experience later on that part. You put your judgment too early.

Most of the problem rest on yourself, not the developer or publisher of this product.
I stopped reading after that ridiculous whining about the installation, every game on GOG is installed in that way. Also activating product? Did you read anything about the game? It's DRM free, you just must install the patch or let the automatic update do it for you. Yeah it's that simple.

I presume that this is your first bought game on gog, If there is something new and a little bit different it doesn't mean it's bad. We have brains remember? It's problem to use it and learn something new? (how to download and install game from GOG). It's sad how some people finds different things odd and not user friendly just because they are lazy. That's why we have now plenty of simple, boring and easy console games with highlights everywhere, autoheal, autoreload, autocover,...

Thanks God that we still have The Witcher 2 ;)

Truth is I agree with most of what the op said, but the thing that really annoys, from the list written in the first post, is the small text.

Thankfully as far as I know everything can be viewed in the journal, but it wouldn't hurt if I could read it when the game wants me to.
Hmmmmm, I also agree with what the OP said BUT I absolutely loved The witcher 2. To be fair though, I am a seasoned PC gamer so I quickly figured out the combat system and soon found it to be too easy!

Didn't have any problems installing the game though.

The Witcher 2 is kind of funny though. It screams CONSOLE with the UI setup and the fact that you can't change settings in game (which is seriously annoying) yet it would be unforgivingly hard to console gamers.

In a way I think it 'pretends' to cater for PC gamers. We ARE the beta testers for the console port!

Speaking as someone who has just finished the game, I have no idea what the OP is on about regarding the combat, potions, etc. I like the fact that I had to work for the knowledge of how to play the game properly, rather than having it spoon-fed to me. But that's just me. In fact, the more I learned, the better I played, and the more satisfied I felt at my progress.

Regarding installation issues, I didn't have any as my copy was physical and the patching process was hitch-free. The OP's issues were probably nothing more than bad luck - it happens to the best of us, PCs are notoriously temperamental.

As for the 5 logos that appear before the game's main screen appears, it's only a problem if you let it be one. If you feel strongly about it, go find a patch that removes them, it's not hard. Google is your friend.

To anyone who has been put off playing for whatever reason, do yourself a favour and stick with it - it's absolutely worth your time and effort.

From my perspective, I loved everything about TW2 - it's my GOTY so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it stacks up against the likes of Skyrim.

Conclusion: Rants like these mostly happens when console gamers come to the PC world.
Why is this thread still alive? Quoting one well known Beatle: "Let it be".
I bought the game on 17th may, the day it got released.

Downloaded it in about 40 minutes (25mbit net speed). Executed exe file, installed the game, ran it, played it for 6 hours straight.

Next day, played about 8 hours.

Next day, the same.

....

6 days later I finished the game. In that time, I had 1 insignificant bug. No other problems, glitches, bugs.
Yes but you're not a software developer.
"and that's the bottom line cause SOFTWARE DEVELOPER said so..."

I think that was OP original intention.

I hope it doesn't get watered down. Let's see whether it is true console players are all wimps, without any perseverance or cleverness - or whether they are just gamers like any other, with a closed-box hardware.

In any case, there are more than enough pretending-to-be-RPGs on consoles already. Dare to be different!
