Sometimes I wonder if some of players play the game only to find bugs or they play for fun? Did you ever wonder why everything is working with fresh install of the OS? It would be wise to check did you and how much you mess with the various system settings. Tweaking (especially if you don't know or you think that you know) the OS is the first thing to cause the troubles. And then, there various mods that do not live together peacefully ...
thanks cpt. obvious. That helps alot... not .
Maybe you should consider the thought that some bugs are gamebreaking and not ignorable, and that they (in my case) occur after applying patch 1.3. without any mods installed. Some users... geez.

It seems to be very different from player to player. Some experience more or less game-breaking bugs or cases of instability with frequent CTD's and what not; while others, like me, have never had anything truly nasty happen that prevented me from continuing, despite multiple playthroughs. It is clear that some people have serious problems happening to them in the game, despite all kinds of attempted solutions and fixes, and it's not always an easily-fixed issue on their end. So, yes, I agree some of the more heated complaints could stand to benefit from looking to their own role in what's going wrong, but eventually they need to come here and ask for help or express their concerns.
No game breaking bugs here. Only literally one crash in two play throughs and that one was user error.
I think mirislav has some good points. I do agree that there are some game breaking bugs, but system settings can play a big part in things as well. Some players expect things to be dead on perfect out of the box, and that isn't realistic as we all know. Personally, I have had no issues with the game except for some really minor thngs that were in no way game breaking, such as Geralt partially disappearing into a rock wall.

People tend to complain when they totally ignore system requirements and don't have the system to play the game. There have some games that for sure were so buggy that they deserved the criticisim ( Fallout: New Vegas comes to mind ). I have had no problems since I installed patch 1.3, but then again, I installed it last night and didn't play all that much. As Kindo said, it seems to vary from player to player, which leads me to believe that it is system related to at least some extent, as everyone has a different system configuration.

The only frustration I have ahd was just playing the game. I wasn't paying attention when I set it up and started playing on what I thought was the easiest Mode. Couldn't understand why they would make something so hard in that mode. As it turned out, I was in Hard mode and didn't find out until way late into the game, so left it that way. Have completed a second playthrough in Hard mode as well, but it wasn't as frustrating.
Heyyo,

The game-breaking problem I'm having? Alchemy not working at all!!! WTF!!! I try and craft anything and it just says "Item not completed..." just like that and it doesn't say why, I have plenty of ingredients and tried different ones for the right types and I google'd this and when I google'd witcher "item not completed" I get no results found... does anyone have any damn idea why this is happening? I gave up on the game when I first tried it and with patch 1.3 it's better but I feel almost like I'm playing Gothic III where the game just hates me even though I'm trying to enjoy this game...

To all frustrated & lost players - GameBanshee has a complete walkthrough of The Witcher 2: http://www.gamebanshee.com/thewitcher2/walkthrough.php

Of course it contains SPOILERS. You have been warned! :)
To all frustrated players, before some of the GoG users will help you, keep in mind that maybe, just maybe you altered the system too much that it causes bugs in TW2? If you had no idea what changes you had done to your system, maybe you were just playing the game to find bugs?

Anyway, in case that you indeed messed up your system, here are instructions to reinstall Windows http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows/help/install-reinstall-uninstall. Once you have a fresh install of OS, if problem still persists, then all will acknowledge it's not your messed up OS.

Perhaps you should consider the point of the OP, captain oblivious.

Most people do not have game breaking problems before or after any patch which proves the OP's point. Some users...geez.

I didn't have problems before Patch 1.3. I haven't changed anything since then. My installation is more dappered than a queens loo. It seems there is something false with the gamepad mechanics. So down button, something is messed up with the patch. Btw copy/paste variants of posts are kinda unoriginal.

Okay, you do have the number of remaining ingedients in the alchemy screen - I do not, but I can make potions.
Does anyone else have the numbers?

Uninstall your mods. From the screenshot you posted, you have v1.3 of my Panel Tweaks mod installed. It's not compatible with game patch v1.3, but I'll have an update out soon.

Ah, I guess that answers my question.
Good to hear there will be an update, because we clearly still need your mod, because they forgot half of the obvious improvements.

Adding to what I just wrote, the mod's incompatible because the interface to craft things changed slightly.

Either way, my mod will get updated for it. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

Heyyo,

Blargh yeah apparently that did fix it.. forgot I had it installed long ago when I first tried this game and ragequit and now decided to try it again on patch 1.3.. the game's quite a bit more playable, especially once I beat the stupid kracken (died the first time, happens, then I died from his slapping tentacles on the stone path and then third time I didn't take any damage and all of a sudden he hits me with a boulder and before Geralt could get up and move again a second one lands on me and kills me... fourth time I beat him no damage taken and no boulders thrown) and could pump some skill points into swordmanship and get a proper block and make my guy's sword swings actually hurt multiple opponents instead of pass through them... tbh that just feels like a bad way to extend the skill tree to me.

My only real left grife right now? the targeting system... I'll be looking and fighting a guy and all of a sudden it targets a guy at the back of the pack and Geralt tries to do some running attack to get to him but can't cause I'm still fighting the guy in front of me and then I'll lose a lot of health. Once they make a good targeting system that aims for targets I'm facing and closest instead of whatever it is now? I'm sure I'd get a lot less frustrated doing multiple enemy battles.

No I'm not purposely trying to find bugs, I'm playing the game and just trying to deal with some of the problems cause right now it's more of a "game I have to finish" instead of a "game I want to finish" kind of deal... I spent money on this game and I am trying to just get my money's worth in game time.
