I was wondering if the censored version is triggered by anything other than where you state your location is at the moment.

I know the plan is to bring in GeoIP, but I'm not sure if it's working right now.

Anyone know?

According to this, the Geo-IP thing went up right after that was written ("We will be implementing this system immediately"), so it's currently up now.

To answer your question, location is the only thing that factors into whether one gets the censored version or not. Australia and New Zealand get the censored version, everyone else gets the uncensored version. Now that Geo-IP is back up, your physical location when you purchase the game is the determining factor (though I'm not sure whether or not a proxy could circumvent that).

Also, sometimes the files that make a version uncensored inexplicably get deleted by the patches, but that's rare and they're easily restored. Putting those files into a censored game also serves to "uncensor" it, just as a side note.

Thanks for that, and the info about patches!

I purchased the game when it was on sale on the 9th of December, so before the GeoIP detection came in.

The post about GeoIP says that they "we won’t be changing anything on your already-bought copy," and that sounds like I shouldn't have the censored version, but I wanted to confirm.
Whee! According to Support, I have the uncensored version.

That basically confirms that purchases before GeoIP came in are safe, which was pretty heavily hinted at in the post announcing the change. I feel kinda stupid about bugging them about it, but I wanted to check.

Thanks GoG!
In case anyone else is unsure in the future, check your CookedPC folder. The uncensored version contains two files called succubuss.dzip and elf_flotsam.dzip. The censored version doesn't have these files.
