I have an i7-3930 6-Core 3.2, with 16GB DDR3 Ram and an ATI 7870 with 3gb VRAM, OS Windows 7 64bit. I run W2 on an SSD. My sister played W3 on full graphics and finished it with not a single problem having, as far as I know, no crash in her 3-week gaming period.

Finally after my workload was reduced, I played and finished W1 in 3 days and started W2 EE, dowloaded from GOG. I finished the prologue without a problem, and then I entered flotsam. After the first FMV where you see the krayan, I got to the inn to speak with Zoltan and it's over. The game crashes whenever I try to exit the inn. I reloaded an old save-game and the crashes happen whenever I exit or enter buildings with loading screens.
I tried the following(both on their own and combined) with no success:

- Lower/Disable all graphic settings.
- Quit all background programs and disabling antivirus(Avast)
- Verifying download and re-downloading the game
- Installing latest drivers
- Installing older GPU drivers
- Keeping a single save in the directory
- Clearing all temp files
- Removing all non-essential USB devices(keyboard/mouse not included)
- Blowing the PC to remove any residual dust(PC is cleaned every week, so this was mostly unneeded)
- Overclocking GPU or CPU (not both for obvious reasons)
- Underclocking GPU and/or CPU (tried one and both at different times)
- Run GPU, CPU and Memory Stress tests (no faults)
- Run German Bug Fix
- Run the Force Rebalance Mod (read somewhere that someone had a success with it)
- Had my sister replay Witcher 3 on MAX with no problems. FPS remained above 60, and temperature remained within the accepted (higher) limits.
- Run the game on dual booted Windows 10 64bit installation I use for development.

I am at my wits end. Even if I have finished Witcher 2, I do not remember it well enough, so I won't be starting W3, and this is really a shame since I have been waiting for it for almost a month and half. I am really frustrated. Has anyone had any success in solving the problem?

It sounds like the same problem you get then you play with german text. It crashes because of special letters like ä, ö, ü and I think ß. There is a fan patch to solve this for german text (You already tried). Perhabs it is the same for your text language.
If there is no fan patch try this: Set text language to english and it shouldn`t crash anymore. Audiolanguage doesn't matter.
I am running it with English voice acting and English text, since I do not know any other non-Greek language, so this is the setting I am running. Thanks for the answer though

There was also a problem with Witcher 2 and MSI Afterburner. But if I remember correct if this is the case you wouldn`t be able to start the game at all. But if you use it try to update it or disable it. Perhabs this will help.
That's really weird, but it might say something that you're getting loading screens. The game is designed so that you only get loading screens when the game doesn't stream fast enough (I got a few back when I had the game on my 5400 RPM hard drive, so it's really weird you'd get them on an SSD). You might try standing at the door for a few seconds before opening it to try and let the game catch up.

That's really the only thing I can think of, sorry.

Flotsam inn unfortunately always leads to a loading screen, so it is not a matter of streaming speed (passing through other doorways in-game is instantaneous). So it is not a streaming issue, and even worse, it is not a pc issue. I installed the game on a friend's laptop , not remembering specs but it has 8gb ran and 2gb vram and is a 2 year gaming laptop, I played the prologue again and it crashes when entering or exiting flotsam. So it is definetely a game issue, the game is non-functional. I have to say, I am disappointed

Also I do not use MSI afterburner in either PC. In the main PC I used the AMD Control panel to underclock the GPU.

You said you tried verifying the download, correct? Would you happen to be using Galaxy? If so and you haven't already tried, you might try downloading and installing the game using the GOG downloader instead.
I installed it with GOG Galaxy with no success. But I found the problem since a week ago, and if someone can explain this to me, I will be really really happy.

The game absolutely hates my wireless repeater I have in the hall. I had to remove it to place it outside, and I apparently forgot to do this. So I tried again to play Witcher 2, and voila! It played perfectly. I enjoyed a few hours of gameplay, until I decided I wanted to learn what changed. No luck, and so I quite happily finished the game believing that I would not solve the mystery. Until this very night, the crash returned.

Today I launched the game to check which save file I wanted to keep. It crashed. My sister then suggested I remove the repeater from the socket, since this was the only major change the last few days (I do not keep track of such minute changes!). It worked! Replace it, stuck. Even better, with no internet connection the game still crashes when the repeater is on. I am absolutely perplexed by this, I have no single idea. The PC is a desktop with no wireless receiver, only an onboard lan card, so the receiver should have no effect at all if the PC is not connected by cable.

If anyone can help, please do so. It makes absolutely no sense....
That is the craziest thing I ever heard. I can't stop laughing the first time i read this (Sorry.). I don't know why this happens but at least you know what to do if you want to play Witcher 2. Have fun!
