So I found an old GOG copy of Privateer 2: The Darkening that a friend of mine let me borrow a long time ago and I wanted to try it out for the first time now. So far I was intrigued, but I encountered a problem. Whenever I looked at a planet or large ship my game lagged like crazy. I browsed around on the internet and found the Unofficial Enhancement Patch on the PCGamingWiki page for Privateer 2.
Once I copied everything into my game's directory I tried launching the game and it crashed. I figured that I forgot something so I went back to the internet and found that I needed to change the first two lines in 'DARK.FIX' so that they pointed to the correct directory. I set them and tried to launch the game again. It crashed again. I launched 'darkfix_setup.exe' to see if there was a setting I needed to change. I noticed that there was a section for choosing the disc. I changed it to disc 2 and tried launching 'DARKFIX.exe' again, but it crashed. I tried setting compatibility mode for 'DARKFIX.exe' to Windows 95 and again it crashed. I tried running it as administrator. Crashed again. I tried changing the selected disc in the setup program to disc 1 and 3. Both options and It still crashed.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Am I missing something? Did I mess something up?
I attached an image of the error message.
