gog2002x: I'm a huge fan of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and I love all the songs by Origa (RIP), among others. I've also really liked the movie Akira, don't see many like it. For me those are classics among the many from back then (80s and 90s mostly. (A few that came out earlier also)

But I also love Solo Leveling (currently airing season 2 on CR Winter 2025), even if they did skip a few good points from the Manga (no idea about LN, if it exists), but still amazing when combined with the music and everything else.

Though I admit there isn't much else this season I cared for. Some nice ones are coming next season, though again, not as many as I'd hoped for.

While some of the older anime were classics (and will almost always be remembered fondly), there are plenty of anime since then that have been quite amazing too. After all, many were inspired by those classics and these are leave a lasting impression. For future generations, they're probably considered classics at some point.

As to how the industry works, I don't know much, so it's hard to comment on it. Though it's always a bit sad to see profit winning over love of creating anime or anything else for that matter. But that's just a reality we face these days.

[Side Note: I'm already sad Amazon removed my favorite Transfer via USB option for Kindle. Which makes me all the more glad that things we buy on GOG are things we own forever.)

goblin slayer did a fresh take on DnD.

so it's not all bad but 90% of the time you can barely compare to the detailed sci-fi/mecha/cyberpunk animation and attention to detail that GITS and AKIRA, CYBERCITY.. ECT ECT unleashed..
some i wont even mention because the NSFW content was on a whole other level..

Good news btw, Bandai Namco is preparing a new Ghost in the Shell release somewhere next year.

actually silverhand's personality was expanded roughly 10 years ago. "the more you know"
so your argument is based on "a Johnny existed" but was it this Johnny..
it's a pickle.. because it's half inception, half chance and half dungeon master from hell.

dont act like you know what and where i have done.. because you don't.
been active online for years.. i just do my own thing and have no trust.
the people that i have spent time with have come to respect my knowledge and insight.
you don't have to do that... but i don't have to deal with you acting like you know me or where and what i have done in my life.

i have seen things come and go.. you have nothing to teach me.

Because shows from recent years like Solo Leveling, Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, Odd Taxi, Spy x Family, Train to the End of the World among some are bottom tier trash. Yes, siree! *rolls eyes*

I do believe there's a drop in quality. But it is due to several reasons:

1) Pretty much 99,9% of anime is not made by hand now, so it kinda looks the same. They give it different visual styles and colors, but everything has that super defined quality. I compare it to the old web Flash animation style.

2) Rushing things to air sooner so they start making money back sooner... TV vs. Blu-Rays is astonishing in some cases, looking like completely different series.

3) High-school obsession, because in most cases, that's the last time Japanese people were "free" of doing what they wanted. It does get repetitive... Or so I read.

4) Given number 3, we eventually drop out of the target demographic. Not a quality issue but it does affect how we perceive it. Even if out school, most characters are of that age group. We grew up, the industry didn't, and only few shows target grown ups (this is an "always" issue, not new).
Bleach..
ichiogo: "are you sizing me up"
enemy: "i am, sizing you up"

30min later.
ichiogo: "still doing it ?"
enemy: "Yep!"

roll credits.

I can't really comment about the NSFW part, since I don' really pay attention to that when I enjoy an anime. I simply laugh, cry, cringe or whatever else I'm feeling when I come across a scene. When it's done to excess, it breaks the immersion for me and that is something that usually turns me off.

Otherwise I try to simply enjoy them whenever I can. Even a bad anime can have good parts to it, though if it's really bad, it may be hard to continue lol.

Here's are some not sold old ones that I really enjoyed:
Aquatope on the white sand (a sweet slice-of-life story)
One Punch Man (it's so crazy, it makes me laugh)
Violet Evergarden (a Netflix one, but it was a moving story for me)
Attack on Titan (this one was sort of a love it at times, but also hated it at times. Maybe I'm just weird on this one)
Sword Art Online (the 1st season was touching for me, but the rest weren't bad all all though)
Laid-Back Camp (another slice-of-life, slow paced, but quite fun to watch)
D4DJ (an anime focused on high school girl DJ groups, but wow, the songs are so catchy and some are truly amazing; great CGI)
Eminence in Shadow (lot of unrealistic stuff, but I keep re-watching it lol. only on HiDive; though licensed to Hulu and with HiDive subscription on Prime)

There are too many to list, but each of these (and many others) has something that makes me watch them again. :) They are all only a few years old, so for me, it's a lot less than 90% I guess lol. I guess maybe I avoid comparing anime. maybe that's sort of a trap. =P

Oh, KonoSuba (makes me laugh so hard) and Goblin Slayer (grim, but amazingly well done) are both awesome. :)

Some of my favorites. Two of which are playing this season. :)

Though Odd Taxi and Train to the End of the Word, I think I may have tagged those, but forgot to watch them maybe. Assuming they are on Crunchyroll, since they sound familiar.

I think the new Ghost in the Shell series are really nice, but I got spoiled on the English Dub VAs of the first 2 series lol. But I probably should start checking them out. It's good to know a new one is coming out. (as for the VA that spoiled all other Motoko Kusanagi for me, I believe her name was Mary Elizabeth McGlynn or something close to that. I think she moved on to directing and maybe even creating her own studio(?))

Drifting a bit into another topic but, i have to say. Both Arcane and Twilight of the Gods managed to impress me both with their graphical choices. Arcane is completely at another level with its presentation but Twilight of the Gods also manages to put in an effort with it's no nonsense attitude

i hated Arcane's stylization and a few character choices.

to put things in perspective regarding arcane.

Would be nice to have anime with adults for a change. Sadly Japanese people seem to lack maturity.

Yes, adults are everywhere. But name one title in the past 5 years, that was popular, with adult main characters.

This feels like a challenge and it should not be, if their culture had maturity.
