Breja: but also simply about my curiosity about how the genre is doing.
Card games are thriving! It is the perfect culmination of events for them to do so. Now more then ever are development tools more accessible to a greater number of people cutting their teeth. Couple that with the inherent low development overhead of a digital card game, throw in a booming mobile market (a platform that perfectly accommodates this type of game) and top it all off with the fact that business model of micro-transaction 'boosters' are woven into the very fabric of trading card games--it leaves little wonder to why so many people are making card games!

Shadowverse's style might put you off but it has the one of, if not the most, interesting card out of the genre.
I recommend Duelyst because matches are quick but strategically and tactically interesting, the board makes it different from all other games, and the pixel art is often amazing. It's also very f2p friendly.

Well, pixel art is actually not something I like much, but at least in this case it looks like decent pixel art and not just crapy "we can't do any better so we'll just call it retro and call it a day" pixel art. The gameplay does look interesting and it available for mac, so it could do nicely for me. I'll defiantely check it out as soon as I have time to properly learn a new game.

In more "classic" card game terms- did anyone here play Elder Scrolls: Legends? Is it just a generic attempt to cash in on Hearthstone's popularity, or does it actually stand on it's own merits?
So, no Elder Scrolls Legends players around?

How about Spellweaver? Looks like a nice, "classic" type of game, bu the reviews are mixed.

Is there any decent single player ones, preferably offline? Had a look at all the ones mentioned above, and they are all: give us your life history and we will let you play with a base set of cards whilst pumping you with adverts, and the need for microtransactions. Ascension for instance you can play (on iPad anyways) offline against computer or player in the room. Really no interest playing Mei BigPlayer who spent 50k on cards.

Magic The Gathering games on Steam are quite fun for casual play(personally fond of 2013 version). Apart from it, maybe "Card City Nights" or "Northmark: Hour of the Wolf"(probably not think you look for but just trying to spread the word). Then there is Witcher's Gwent(not the stand-alone version) . Apart from that nothing comes to my mind as SP CCG
So, I've checked out Duelyst and I have to say it's pretty good. The board game/card game thing does make for an interesting, unique approach, and there is a lot of strategic depth to the game. Maybe a bit too much even :D I made it to silver rank, and I doubt I'll ever make it any higher, as that would require ten unbroken winning streak of at least 3 matches, and that would mean spending quite a bit more time figuring out the game and tweaking my deck. But that's a problem with me not really wanting to devote too much time to a game like that, not with the game itself. Really my only criticism with the game is the visuals. I'm no fan of the pixelated graphics, and while I can accept that's the way ti looks on the board, some nicer art for the cards would be great, and it would be nice if the cards for various factions were more distinct.
