mqstout: Not until Microsoft decides to stop absolutely hating PC gaming.
So gaming in general, seeing as they're starting to wind down the Xbox console?

I just want to play it without having to be connected to the internet constantly for a part of the game I do not use.

Breja: The removal of Diablo 1 from GOG is far mroe likely than the release of Diablo 2.
If they go for some more nostalgia milking and decide to "remaster" it, then it's pretty much certain.

AB2012: I've been using D2MultiRes for years and with dgVoodoo2, it still works fine even today.

Fonzer: So what is good about Diablo 2?
avatar
ListyG: A lot of is simply the gameplay loop. No-one buys Diablo 2 for a deep & meaningful story, but rather it's incredibly good ARPG fun to run rampage as a Necromancer and a dozen skeletal mage summons, and gameplay is 'smooth' without being too grindy. Same with Torchlights - they aren't particularly deep RPG's, but what they do, they do well. :-)
Ok thanks, haven't played far enough i guess and i did try barbarian and assasin character for now.

ListyG: rampage as a Necromancer and a dozen skeletal mage summons
Or even more, if you play version 1.09 or lower. They drastically squeezed down the number in 1.10 due to complaints about multiplayer lag. Used to be 1 skeleton per point for both normal skeletons and mages. So 40 + whatever skill bonuses you had. Now THAT was necromancing.

In general, there have been a ton of changes throughout the patches, which were "forced" because of some multiplayer issue. I will maintain the position that anybody who hasn't fought Lord de Sais with his thieving ability (which was nerfed in patch 1.02 and completely removed in 1.04) hasn't fully experienced Diablo 2.
