As @Shadowstalker16 said, people deserve to know that these things are caused by Islamist terrorists.
Mnemon: Which, by what catpower said (what's the source of that news?), they'd still report in a case of terrorism. What's withheld are names and photos of the people responsible in an attempt to, I guess, not grant them martyr / celebrity status within the Western media. They are turned into anonymous terrorists, not individuals.
So I get the idea - but I am not sure it'll do much given that names and photos will still appear on the internet, on social media, on other media. In the end it's more about the ethics and editorial guidelines of the papers participating - and it is fair enough to let it be their decision.
But people need to see the faces committing these crimes; otherwise, they won't be able to recognise potential threats.
It's clearly censorship, in a country that is supposedly a democracy—even though I've never thought so. As Florian Philippot said in
this tweet, this is what a news report would look like by censoring stuff that people should be aware of:
This morning, *bip* committed *bip* *bip* in the city of *bip*. Number of victims: *bip*.
I'm relieved, though, that some papers and probably social media and foreign press will still continue to enlighten our people; even Libération, a left-wing French paper, will continue to show the truth.
