It also shouldn't be assumed, however, that Galaxy *isn't* DRM in this instance. That depends entirely on CDPR's intentions. I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt re DRM, but the loot boxes (card kegs) are something I find more troubling than DRM, which leaves me wondering if they really do deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I have to say I'm a bit suspicious of these larger buttons that have appeared in downloads for GOG Galaxy. I have it set not to have the Galaxy client. Now you seem to have to go around this to further click on your downloads. It's just plain annoying to see.

I know it's nothing like Steam, but with enough users signing up to it they could easily change it to match it, and then bang goes DRM-Free, regardless of any assurances they've given.

So, I wish they'd stop trying to push it in such a way and get rid of these larger buttons for it.

Answer me this: to what end? What would be the point in this plot you propose? Why spend 10+ years championing DM-free games only to impose a DRM client? What you're suggesting doesn't make sense.

DRM-free games is a fairly limited category, so perhaps GOG wants to tap into the broader market?

Do I need DOSBox to play Wolfenstein? Yes! So it is DRM.

But that doesn't make sense. DRM free is GOG's USP. It's the only reason they exist and manage to compete with Steam.
If they were to start selling games with DRM they might as well just be reselling Steam keys, and we all know that's a crowded market as it is.

Getting a couple more games (even AAA ones) to sell by allowing DRM wouldn't be worth losing the only thing that really sets them apart from their competitors.

What do you mean by this? Because without third party tools, you can't set your games to default to non-galaxy installers.

The link for the 'classic' (now called off-line back-up game installers) DLs is right underneath the big annoying Galaxy button. There's nothing to go around. Or, if you're using the old DLer, the links are the same place they've always been - under the 'More' button.

Since Gwent is a free game, why would GOG try to stop people from "pirating" it?

I don‘tknow if you need dosbox, but I don‘t. Can easily play it with MS DOS 6.22 on my old PC.

But you can't buy this version from GOG. The one GOG sells comes with bundled DOSBox which you have to install and then remove manually.

At the very least they should mention that for Windows XP + you can only play the DRM version.

Of course DOSBox is not DRM. I was just showing how idiotic your definition of DRM is: "I need X to play the game, therefore X is DRM".

I don't like Galaxy, but DRM doesn't mean "stuff I don't like". If a phrase cam mean everything, then it means nothing. If we start stretching the definition of DRM to be whatever we want, then it just becomes a meaningless buzzword. It's because of people like you, who extend the definition of DRM to mean anything, that it's difficult for DRM-free proponents to convince others how bad DRM is. "Ah, it's just those nuts who keep shouting the buzzword DRM everywhere. Ignore them."

What I'm finding frustrating is GOG Galaxy seems to be deleting my game shortcuts and replacing them with shortcuts to GOG Galaxy, I'm not impressed. If I wanted Galaxy running all the time I'd just have it start when I turn on the computer.

It takes about 5x longer for GOG Galaxy to launch itself than the game takes to load.
