neumi5694: That's actually a very cheap way to make potential customers go to their site, costs a lot less than posting adds everywhere.
Crosmando: Nah, as EGS found out, it's a cheap way to attract third-worlders who never pay for games.
You got some facts for that?
Last I looked, I'm not a third-world person, and I grab all the free games from Epic, just like many folk I know, and apart from spending money at GOG buying games, it is a rare day I or we buy from the likes of Epic or Steam.
In any case, we are talking digital files, and many of those third-world folk were never going to buy those games anyway, so next to no loss for Epic really or the game providers. So not really even worth a mention in the scheme of things.
Then there is the argument, that even those folk in third-world countries are likely to spend some money on games at some point, especially for those they did not get for free, but perhaps are related series wise etc etc.
Epic in all reality, were never looking to make a killing in sales from third-world countries anyway. Their freebies though, does gain a significant leg in the door to those eventual markets.
Epic are clearly thinking ahead, just like Steam or any other store that wants to survive into the future.
