Never got any use out of it.
Most of the time I already bought the games on GOG or didn't have them on Steam, but I got some games out of it, so yeah, "Make new customers happy" use. Of course not many publishers would participate, but ...
Who knew that giving away stuff for free isn't profitable? You should inform Epic Games.

That's actually a very cheap way to make potential customers go to their site, costs a lot less than posting adds everywhere.

LegoDnD: On rare occasion, publishers would give GOG games to anyone with the Steam version and accounts for both stores. The page to claim these giveaways was until recently at the bottom of every page on this site, but it hadn't been used in over a year anyway.

Nah, as EGS found out, it's a cheap way to attract third-worlders who never pay for games.

... and people like me :) During the last Winter sale both EGS and GOG got a amount with 3 integer digits different from 0.

They still make most money with Fortnite of course, but also potential future fortnite players reach the store this way.

You got some facts for that?
Last I looked, I'm not a third-world person, and I grab all the free games from Epic, just like many folk I know, and apart from spending money at GOG buying games, it is a rare day I or we buy from the likes of Epic or Steam.

In any case, we are talking digital files, and many of those third-world folk were never going to buy those games anyway, so next to no loss for Epic really or the game providers. So not really even worth a mention in the scheme of things.

Then there is the argument, that even those folk in third-world countries are likely to spend some money on games at some point, especially for those they did not get for free, but perhaps are related series wise etc etc.

Epic in all reality, were never looking to make a killing in sales from third-world countries anyway. Their freebies though, does gain a significant leg in the door to those eventual markets.

Epic are clearly thinking ahead, just like Steam or any other store that wants to survive into the future.

A request was created to bring it back, but I seriously doubt so. In any case with enough support perhaps they would rethink their strategy

It needed financial support, not people who only want free stuff. How is Coonect supposed to rest in peace if people keep bringing it up?
