Lots of great and interesting answers. Plenty I haven't tried or in some cases even heard of so I'll be sure to check them out. I have always heard good things about Fate of Atlantis but never got around to trying it so maybe it's about time.
To finish things off before announcing a winner I'll also give my answers:
1. The first point and click I played was The Legend of Kyrandia: Malcolms Revenge back when I was a child. I recall it being quite challenging (maybe my age was a part of that though) but I did eventually get through it with some help from my dad. While it perhaps isn't the best of the series and has a number of flaws it does remain very memorable to be. Later on I received Escape from Monkey Island for my birthday which despite it's clunkiness introduced me to the series and LucasArts point and click games in general.
2. It's tough to actually pick a favourite as there are plenty that I love for different reasons but to try and narrow it down a bit it would be a toss up between the following:
- Curse of Monkey Island - Hard to decide between this and the first two games which are also great but I really enjoyed the art style here along with the addition of voice acting (compared to the original MI1/2 at least). Also, there's Murray :)
- The Longest Journey - Intriguing story and setting though I'll admit some of the puzzles are a bit questionable.
- Day of the Tentacle - Wacky characters and a fun time travel mechanic with a silly plot about a power hungry tentacle.
- Grim Fandango - Great atmosphere and memorable characters.
Anyway, with that it's time to wrap things up and announce a winner. Each person that entered will be given a number based on order or posting and then I'll put that into random.org to pick a winner.
Thank you to everyone else for participating :)

CarChris: I'm in, thank you for the chance! +1
1. What was the first point and click game that got you into the genre?
Although I had played 2-3 other adventure games before it, it was the first Syberia game that made me to actually like the genre.
2. What is your favourite point and click game?
This is more difficult, as I like all Syberia games, Secret Files games, and Broken Sword games.
Congratulations, you are the random winner. I'll PM you the code shortly. 1. What was the first point and click game that got you into the genre?
