I am HIGHLY AGAINST moderation.

Encouraging moderation is opening up a pandora's box of reddit style censorship and bans.

Even innocent people can get hurt from it.

Thinking from gog staff's point of view, I don't think they would make a system recommended by apehater where users can ban other users from created threads.

That would cost too much time, money and resources.

Gog's priority is selling games to as many people as possible, not banning harmless internet trolls.

On second thought, screw the pancakes and blackjack.

before i would totally agree with you, but i'm so sick of seeing the stupid. and sick of seeing friends leave.

However, I do like having the freedom we have here, and freedom does come with a price. I'm torn.

Whatever happened to Snowkatt?
No alternative to moderation. Of this sort.

In smaller, more decent communities, there can be some consensual self-moderation, by the vast majority of users who agree that, duh, shitting over some "race", gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion etc, is, like : bad. But once the community reaches a certain population, and once the cretins reach the critical mass that they statistically reach in any broad society, this consensual agreement is gone, and so is any chance of self-moderation. The peer-pressure balance doesn't allow it anymore.

So, moderators have to enforce themselves, actively, such basic notions. They have to set, themselves, the norms that are not spontaneously agreed on anymore.

No button tweak forum engine gadget option replaces that.

apehater: i'll suggest an alternative to moderation: gog should just give every user the abillity to bann single users from their own created threads, the banns should be individual to every single thread. also every user should be able to censor or remove single posts in their own threads, being able to close them and being able to set up a password for its own threads individually.
So basically we’d be a bunch of feudal lords. My thread would be my castle, and the people in it my oathsworn. My hardy walls would dwarf the straw huts of lesser lords, its imposing spiked parapets gleaming with battle-hardened sycophants, and the moat would lie empty, save for the bones of those foolish enough to attempt to pass through my lands without approval. During the hour of the wolf I would retire to my echo chamber and let the adoration of my subjects entrench my perspectives, until I had the power to literally channel ignorance from my fingertips into crackling bolts of pure energy, and exude such power as to rival the gods themselves!

I'm cool with that so long as your castle isn't Camelot.

That is a silly place.
