As a fan of their previous games, Horizon in particular I found a great 4X game, this looks like an insta buy to me.

Looks meh and the reviews seem to support that.
Well, those arrowhead shaped star destroyers sure don't look like anything I've ever seen. Nope. Not at all.
What does this game add to the obvious homage to / copy of the original Master of Orion and MoO2?

Actual trade, or just pacts?
More diplomacy?
More depth to ship design?
Variety added to the resources? I see in the ship design panel there are fields for Metal and Energy

They make up for it with the very original look of the giant space station. :P

Star Wars didn't invent the arrow-shaped starship or planet-shaped space station. ;p

Hi HereForTheBeer,

Thank you for your interest in Stars in Shadow. While the game takes a lot of inspiration from MoO(2), Ashdar Games have given it it's own twist. The colourful cartoony graphics, the vivid dialogues and text, as well as some crazy designs for minor races that you can encounter. Overall I think you will find the game has a little less micro management compared to MoO2 and perhaps more emphasize on combat and techs.

The game has some pretty unique features as well, rarely seen in recent 4X games, such as going for slave raids (and experimenting on your slaves) and interaction with minor races. The game is a tribute to MoO, not a one on one copy.

Cheers,

Surtur

Me. I haven't seen many Star Destroyers in Battlestar Galactica. If you want a not-so-subtle Star Wars reference though see this official art from the website: http://stars-in-shadow.com/images/display.htm?x_stars_in_shadow__special_planet_types.jpg

The guy who did the art for this game Jim Francis aka Arioch is really talented.

I was joking. :P

I know shit about originality. I've never had an original thought in my life and I wouldn't know an original from a copy of anything to save my life.

Nice. Been hoping that this would come to gog. Looks like a game very close to Master of Orion 2. Definitely getting it.
