Alogan19: Sorry I won't ever be buying a Stardock product.

Bought Gal Civ II: Ultimate Edition via steam, tried to play it, intrusive DRM/account registration issues.

Really annoying.
What did u expect of Steam versions??!?!?!

trusteft: I am glad that after GalCiv 1 (when it was originally released for the PC), Stardock finally has some true drm-free releases again.
Good move.
It's good to see Stardock return to it's DRM-Free roots. I read on the Stardock forums awhile back that Brad wasn't too thrilled with GoG release of GC1 because they felt they were not given the tools to track sales from GoG the way they would like. I'm wondering if anything has changed in that regard now that Stardock is commited to releasing their catalog on GoG.

Not a fan of Brad.
Just glad their games are coming here.
Are there going to be Galaxy support for Sins?
I wrote a review for GC3 but I think it is too long to be published and isn't showing up with the other reviews so I would like to post it here.

Not so fast Stardock

While Stardock coming to gog as a company was a great thing and meet with joy by many gamers this review covers what is Galactic Civilizations 3 aka GC3 in it's current state is.

If you have been thinking of purchasing a new 4x game and looking for a strategic space adventure GC3 has no doubt shown up on your interest list. The game bosts a windows 64 bit requirement in order to use the latest features and looks impressive from the screen shots however from this review section and others we can see that the game has some very mixed reviews, some love GC3 for what it has done at the moment and hope for it to evolve into a 'playable state' while some have given up on it.

The reason for this split is quite frankly because the game is not even close to really being finished properly however it has been on the market in a 'completed' state for quite a few months now the devs. Have shown numerous streams about what they plan to fix in the game and what needs to be done but as another person has commented their attitude is like they are doing you a favor and it's going to take a long time for them to get something together from looking at their work scheduled.

The game at the moment is not finished the a.i. is extremely wonky and many mechanics are messed up, while you can play some form of the game it really isn't that enjoyable. To make matters worse instead of releaseing a finished product Stardock have already nickle and dime the consumer with petty DLC (basic map packs ect.) that should of been included in the game for free at least to reward people who have already brought the messed up game and shown their support.

Stardock have claimed on a dev. Stream that they are helping to use the DLC revenue to help put things in the game, which makes you if you are buying this an investor more then a customer. You are buying it on the hopes that one day they will fix this game into a playable and enjoyable one instead of something nowhere near finished.

If you fancy yourself an investor of this game then go ahead but by looking at their work schedule they are taking their time and expect a lot more DLC for this game. As one person commented it might be worth waiting until this game has hit ultimate edition until actually giving this some attention and considering buying it.

If you are an investor also be aware that the makers of this game and staff are doing things like taking a day off to go see star wars ect (info by stream from devs. on twitch) and aren't exactly 'working hard. '

The game has a lovely graphics and some neat CGI (although not nearly enough) and some great ideas but their just isn't enough 'jazz' to warrant a purchase at the moment and the strategy is very shallow.

blogstory: my failed attempts to access the console command in game "Input Menu" code says that the ` (key character = ` ) is used to access the console, but I haven't been able to get it to work :(

Please share details to get the console operational so I may use the game codes aka "cheat codes".

Islanti: Add just
cheat
to the command line for the game.

-Adrian from Stardock's Metaverse Team
Thank you for taking the time to reply, fortunately another gamer already provided the details to access the dos prompt and enter the correct directory and then enter the command with the cheat option at the end.
Example:
...\Galactic Civilizations III\GalCiv3.exe cheat

I have now written a batch file to my desktop to automatically launch the game and execute this code for me.

I hope this also helps future players who want this access to the GalCiv3 ingame codes.

What exactly do you know is broken?
Thinking about buying it for myself as a christmas present so stuff like that is kinda important for me to make up my mind. ;)

You can actually do the same thing with a regular shortcut. Create a shortcut, go to the properties page for it, and edit the "Target" box by appending the word "cheat" (essentially, the Target box should look like the line you use in the batch file.)

Doing the above is a bit more elegant than using a batch file.

Niggles: What did u expect of Steam versions??!?!?!
ok I have to speak up...1st do NOT blame steam for all the DRM in GC 2
Steam did NOT add

1: serial code
2 Impulse reactor
3: Activation and LIMITS

yes to get it via steam you need their client and be online...but the rest blame Brad Wardell aka Frogboy

as for said 'Gamers Bill of 'Lies' (Rights) Brad really NEVER did go by it, he betrayed us by saying you have the right to so much and then what did he do, activations impulse reactor and to me even a serial is DRM

for me to buy any of SD's games they will have to show concrete PROOF none of that exists here on GOG, and the only reason why I believe any of it is its Adrian telling us and not Brad, cause if he was I would flat out call him on it, oh and Adrian if my Nick looks familiar its the same one I had in the chat rooms AT stardock

actually I'm gonna add one more DEMAND, if the gog version does indeed have the drm removed do us Stardock 'Loyal' fans a big favor and TAKE IT OUT of the other versions (Direct download AND steam)

Thank you, I didn't know about that feature. It is more simpler :)

I agree.
I am not angry, only disappointed.
[been with stardock since the irc desktop chat era - have purchased a GalCiv 4 separate times (twice owner of GalCiv2) I missed them because of Steam.]
Hopefully Stardock will reward their customers/stealth-investors and stealth developers of game-modders fanbase.
As the GalCiv concept is a platform with wasted potential...

Stardock, please accept this constructive criticism with a priority for GalCiv projects.

Wishing everyone Happy holiday season.

Another ex-Stardock customer here who felt betrayed by Brad's bull over "rights". Bought the GC2 Collector's Edition (in a nice steelbox) which initially was DRM-free - no disc-checks (hurray!) and no activation.

However the game was a major disappointment due to some truly daft design decisions (e.g. to maximise planet production, you had to position satellites - each of which provided a boost - in a neat 4x4 grid over the planet).

Stardock changed that in one of their first patches (so each planet had a 4 satellite capacity with no positioning needed) but the patches required online activation (this was pre-Impulse so you didn't need an account, yet). An email option was offered which I tried.

It took 2 weeks (and four emails from Stardock support) before I could regain access to a game that I had paid for. Needless to say, I then downloaded a crack and boycotted Stardock from then on. As a former Object Desktop subscriber, I can honestly say that Stardock lost $200-300 worth of sales in my case (in Object Desktop renewals and other game purchases) but I also avoided all the hassle and grief others seem to have encountered with Stardock's later ventures.

However it is good news to see Stardock finally return to a DRM-free distribution system and I have purchased a couple of their games on GOG since (though only when heavily discounted).

As far as GalCiv 2 is concerned, any DRM has been removed. I can install and run it on a PC that is completely offline. It also seems to be quite a different game from the frankly mediocre one I left behind a few years back.

I would like to ask if Stardock, having decided to offer DRM-free games downloads, would consider DRM-free versions of their other software? (Object Desktop, etc). I can only find one mention in their forums of so-called archival releases, but nothing on their store and their activation policy page is unchanged.

Offworld Trading Company has been out on Steam since April 28th, but it's still not on GOG yet. I guess things haven't gone quite as planned there. Hopefully it's just a delay to finish implementing Galaxy features.

Well seems you can remove servo from the upcoming list. Not only is it no longer a stardock title the dev has given up:
