Syberia 3 should be released tomorrow - 21 April 2017.

Now I am *SO* excited about this! I've been waiting for this for so many years.
I absolutely LOVED the first 2 games.

I've read a lot of speculation that the steam version will be using nasty Denuvo, although I can't find anything official to confirm this. But that's on steam. And I don't care about steam.

What I want to know is... will GOG (who is far superior) be getting a DRM-free version?

We already have Syberia 1 and Syberia 2. So will we be getting Syberia 3 as well?

*hops up & down with excitement*
The steam-site of the game clearly shows that it'll use Denuvo.

And if a game uses Denuvo the chances for it getting a GOG-release are almost zero.

Boooo!
Putting Denuvo on their software by paying an arm and a leg to do so - then releasing a DRM free version wouldn't make any sense. So unfortunately no Syberia 3 here :(
I don't like DRM,but some kinds I can tolerate, but not one that might hurt your hard drive.
Denuvo is the one DRM I will not tolerate.
As much as I want to buy this game, I'm not gonna pay for a horrible DRM'd version.

And I can't be the only one who won't buy it cos of Denuvo.
So ultimately, Demuvo is PREVENTING sales.
Wait what's AAA about Syberia 3?

I would tolerate a standard DRM for Syberia 3...I don't like it but I would tolerate it...but a DRM that might damage your Hard Drive...no freaking way.

And puttiing this DRM on a game that is pretty much a niche game anyway..horrible,horrible, marketing decision, since the adventure game core audience for this is hostile to DRM anyway, not to mention one that might be harmful.
Remember in school when they said, "there are no stupid questions"...so what is Denuvo?

Really want to get this game but don't know what this DRM is.

Basically it is a DRM that makes on line checks fhat you have a registered copy of the game once every 24 hours.
The real controversy is that many claim that it does damage to your hard drive while making the check. Denovo denies this, but many insist it does.
It is a VERY intrusive DRM,easily the worst yet. Many people, because o fthe possbiel damage to your computer, refuse to buy a game that uses it, even though they might tolerate a less obnoxious DRM.

Again, I am puzzled as to why the company are doing this for what is a niche game.....

There are apparently many different versions of it as each release has it tweaked, which contributes to a lack of clarity about what exactly it's doing in any given game. Denuvo was originally marketed as an "anti-tamper" that wasn't itself a DRM, but it's been since demonstrated that more recent incarnations make use of activation servers, adding yet another failure point to games. Since it's very difficult to crack, only a few games have ever had it stripped out or worked around, which poses a threat to the long-term longevity/accessibility of games that include it once the aforementioned activation servers go down. Usually legitimate owners could rest knowing that they could strip out DRM once it became a problem, but that won't be possible with many Denuvo games.

There are also rumors of it affecting performance or damaging SSDs, but those are mostly unproven or overblown. Not that most people will correct anyone who claims those things, of course. Blind rage toward a bad thing is useful, even if the angle is technically inaccurate.

The most annoying part about Denuvo, though, is that its biggest problems will come down the road instead of right after release, so some gamers will actively defend and request its usage under the pretense of it having no downsides, presumably having never seen a game become inaccessible because of activation servers going down. Some buy into the whole "we have to fight those pirates who are ruining the industry" narrative, while some just can't see any further than the tip of their own nose. Basically, imagine a DRM with the potential longevity issues of always-on DRM that reinforces publishers' ability to enforce games effectively being full-priced rentals, but with enough PR spin that some people actually go to bat for it.
And I still have Syberia 1 and 2 in my backlog. :p

Hopefully the game will find its way to this DRM-free abode in the coming years.

Awful DRM like this and Tages, will only convince interested people in pirating the game... Not that a good DRM exists, but if it was just standard Steam game DRM it wouldn't be so bad. I know what I'll do if want this title.
It is funny that Denuvo has not proven to be as crackproof as it's Makers have claimed.........
