Surprised Wolf Among Us didnt make money.. One of the few games from them i enjoyed...
You can't make money with cut up pieces of a game who, at the time all pieces are out, go on a sale? Who would have thought.
Quick, get the tombstone "Adventures are dead" up, so nobody will make another one of these.

Grargar: Skybound Games (headed by the creator of the comics themselves, Robert Kirkman) have assumed control of the Final Season and are planning on finishing it with the help of former Telltale developers:

They aren't dead, they just mutated entirely. Back in 1993. In September.

It's just that most people refuse to accept that their favorite genres often do mutate and change while keeping or exceeding the spirit of the original.

Well, how many companies are making games like Myst these days?

I personally consider first person adventure much less appealing than third person adventures, so I'm not sure exactly what is supposed to be exceeding anything with Myst and clones that followed.

I also think that your mutation theory is greatly exaggerated, some of the best adventure games ever were made after 1993, with absolutely no traces of Myst influence. Like Broken Sword, to name one.

True, but when was the last time you saw a Sierra style adventure game as well? You'll find plenty of first person Myst'em ups. Dear Ester, Jazzpunk, Firewatch, among others.

It really depends on what you mean by Sierra style, they had so many, but if games like this count...

...then it's really not been so long.

And this came out just few months ago:

If you mean parser input with graphics, then I don't know, I haven't been actively following parser games, but I'm sure there are those too, although not commercially probably.

Indeed, but those are still a small subset of adventures really.
Consider this: how many of Telltale's games have been first person? How many of Daedalic's? Revolution? Pendulo? Wadjet Eye? Anything?

Of course there are games like Obduction, but overall those "mutant Myst-like games" are a minority.
Although if we count hidden object games as further developed adventures, then it's a whole new paradigm of course. But most people don't count them as adventures...

Yeah, but The Wolf Among Us had a four month delay between episodes 1 and 2 that resulted in them rewriting the entire rest of the story. That couldn't have been cheap...
Maybe that's why The Walking Dead Final Season was temporally removed from the store.

Is it safe to assume that the rest of Telltale Games will remain on GOG? Or is it too soon to draw a conclusion?

Still too soon. The deal with Skybound only concerns The Walking Dead series. Everything else's fate is still unknown and will depend on how Telltale chooses to proceed from now on.
So, uhh... all the Telltale games have had their prices slashed everywhere but here. Might wanna get on that.
Looks like Telltale broke an NDA and that's what ultimately was the final nail in the coffin that killed the company.

That was incredibly stupid of Telltale. What kind of freaking legal advice were they getting to let this happen? Or did some idiot ignore what their lawyers said?
Sad about Telltale.. I enjoyed a lot of their games. but doing something as stupid as violating a NDA really cools my sympathy for them.

My sympathy doesn't go to those who request 1 mio and bankrupcy as damages for an nda about a tv series videogame project.
