I've seen today when i was in the process of getting Supreme Commander 2 with it's dlc if i want to tip the game preservation program.
Didn't tip but i wonder if this was meant.
Is it real?
Or just a test.

Tip of gratuity? Like tipping a waiter I assume?

So that’s what the Dreamlist and Preservation Program are for: e-begging.

It seems that all you do as a company is try and find ways to generate money out of thin air rather than fixing all that is broken in your platform. You could start from there instead of “testing” your customer base.

Here’s a tip to anyone reading this: DO NOT tip at checkout. Tipping is not a guarantee for anything. The same way pre-order is.

Consider this my feedback which you were looking for anyway.

If you were honest and asked (e-begged) people for money to stay afloat, I’d spare whatever I could because I believe(d) in your main core value: drm-free. I think a lot of other folks would sympathize with that as well. I know... not exactly professional. E-begging has been normalized for a long time now. Become pioneers a that. Anything but the schemes you pull on your customer base.

It seems this ship is sinking. You’re only delaying the unavoidable and disappointing tons of people in the long run who believe(d) in what you stood for.

I’d love to be proven wrong.

I feel bad for GOG’s employees who are left at the mercy of constant poor decisions being made.

Can you finally use your original account instead of this alt one?

Wait, what?!

Is the money I spend at GOG not already used to ensure games stay playable on current systems? What are they doing with it, then?
A tip at checkout???? GOG has lost its fucking mind! There is no way in hell that I'm going to give charity to a store. I don't see them giving me anything for shopping here. There is insane...then there is this. ROTFLMAO@GOG
Something wrong? I cannot pay. Little Atlas shows up.

Yes like tipping a waiter. But gog did say they use their own resources for making old games work in their preservation program so maybe somebody would tip them for that. Guess only buy the game is not enough since many probably own it and some discounts are rather big.
But i still don't know if this is just a test

I think maybe they misunderstood the idea behind the adage, "Putting your money where your mouth is". Perhaps it translated strangely into Polish and the "you" translated to mean "us". :B

Because unless like on giving money to PBS, I can actually earmark the money or say why I'm giving extra, and unless I can write "UPGRADE TO DOSBOX STAGING, YOU [COLORFUL PHRASE HERE]!!", then it really serves to accomplish less than nothing.

king_kunat: In this particular case, the vagueness is intentional - it's a test, and we want to see your more or less unbiased reaction.
Feedback:
1. I did not spot the "gift this" field and wound up having to call support to reverse the purchase so that I might re-purchase it as a gift. (I was expecting something like a popup to focus my attention, since I already owned the title.)

When I did so the price changed so that the refunded amount was insufficient to re-purchase the item. I mean the price increased AFTER I selected to use the funds refunded from the purchase to re-purchase the same item; the price literally changed on the order form — and changed back when I deselected the wallet, and then again increased when I re-selected the wallet. I doubt anyone would find this acceptable.

2. To gift a game it is necessary to use the target's email address.

Why can I not transfer to a friend's Gog account, directly? That is how I expected the process to work since accounts are how we identify each other as members of Gog and email addresses are not necessarily shared. (It is an additional, external security risk on top of the friend contact within the Gog ecosphere.)

Edit: some clarity added

I just tested this with three games from my wishlist and this didn't happen for me. I seem to remember, that the price increases, when selecting the buy as gift option, but that didn't happen either. I'm confused.
I also didn't get the option to give/leave a tip.
But I didn't complete the purchase. I'm waiting to see the releases next week before my next purchase.

See attached screengrab.

The main point is: How many customers have EVER purchased a second copy of any game for themselves? Why does the interface default to me, especially when one considers that other form validation is evident, such as the prevention from buying expansion items for a base game not owned by the purchaser.

And, perhaps more importantly, why would we HAVE to use their email address to gift someone a game — who is a friend on Gog?! Surely it would be simpler for everyone to have that secret posted directly to their account? *facepalm*
