Reznov64: Does this have anything to do with those Capital One credit card offer pop-up ads I see after I complete a purchase on GOG?

I use adblocker but the pop-ups come directly from GOG, as though they themselves are offering up credit cards to customers on a commission basis.
Knowing what I know about credit cards and the usury they can sucker people into, that seems like a bad idea.

It seems odd that GOG would be branching out into credit card offers. But the way they run their business, I am not surprised.

GilesHabibula: Blink once if Elon is in there attempting to make things more efficient. ;-)
That might actually be a net positive if we could get certain pages loading faster with less bloat.

Time4Tea: This all sounds very cryptic and bizarre. How are you planning to 'gather this feedback'?
Cute little gog bears spying on your landline maybe?

angelblue: Understandable for Linux users. But here GOG only supports Windows (which, it has to be said, still represents the vast majority of gamers these days).

One thing people seem to forget (I'm not talking about you) is that it will remain optional (hopefully). No one is forcing people to give more.

RizzoCuoco: Actually…no. I’m a Windows only user and I too often find better fan patches or solutions to fix the games. What GOG does is not good at all. Take Silent Hill that was just added. It won’t work with the SH4 patch from nearly a decade ago after GOG tinkered. That patch is 100x better than anything GoG has ever done.
That's another debate. GOG has already talked about it. The aim is to make the game as comfortable as possible, while respecting the experience of the original game. This is something that community patches don't always manage to do. It's not impossible that one day they'll be able to use community patches, but it's not a priority for them for a number of legitimate reasons

I'm willing to give an extra €1 or €2 to support GOG. I just want to make sure it's for GOG and no one else.

Send it to me or anyone else really, it'd be better spent I wager :)

Providing original files makes more sense. Its something staff can provide right now. That is actual preservation and works great for cross platforming by default. Obviously the gog version will be the default, but having original files, minus DRM makes sense. Put the originals in the drop down menu, so noobs dont get that by accident.

Plus having the last best known to function Win10 version in the drop menu would be even better, for those unable to move to Win11.

Messing with the checkout during a major sale, that's bloody brilliant! Tipping is it? And now the talk of subscriptions! WTF! Lately GoG really has become a mecca for stupid ideas! All the while there's still NO previous versions of offline installers, slow offline installers download speeds, DRM and occasional website problems (GoG bears, 503 error etc.) and a totally cluttered website!
This place is falling apart and I for one am definitely not feeling comfortable buying games from here anymore. Not knowing what might happen.

They can take my pity, because what pittance can I provide against the waste of a manager's salary that could be belt tightened by a factor of 5?

At least the promise is vague and non-committal unlike their "giveaways".

ROFLMAO!

Wait... first they break games with their dumb marketing stunt, provide NO rollback feature or previous version for offline installers and now they have the audacity to ask us to support this behaviour? ... LOL!!!

Here's a tip for you, just quit with your stupid "Preservation Program" already.

So they want money to not preserve games. Ruin the idea of actual preservation. Then ask for more money than what a customer is already paying. As a friendly reminder, the price tag is already providing customers with everything that should support the service. If not....you leaders are making catastrophic mistakes, staff.

Once again. The staff can already perform and provide what customers need, while actually preserving games.

1) No wrapper on DOS games. Just latest, patched game, with no stripped or missing files.

2) With every game being updated to Win11. Keep the last version that ran under Win10 as a special drop down menu option.

This isnt rocket science staff. Fire whoever decided to outsource your thinking for you.

dnovraD: What kind of [redacted] testing do you expect us to do if you spring it on us without properly describing what we're expecting?

Is this the norm of Agile development?
